The Brown Jug in Sandwich MA on Cape Cod is a darling little market

Today's #Marketfriday is a stop at one of my favorite little markets. Right in the village on bricklined pavements. Market fridays are hosted by dear @dswigle so stop by her post today as well.

The shop and brick pavements/sidewalks last week with snow and grey sky
A different look to High Summer with green lawns and hydrangea blooms, but I rather love the grey bare tree days of New England.

The windows still have the old glass with their wavy panes reflecting the 1700's colonials across the road

The current owners bought the Brown jug sometime in mid 2000's I believe. They are a lovely couple. The place has always been the Brown Jug, even back in the 1800's when it was a market and for a brief time it was also a stove/fireplace shop.

The original Brown Jug still in the shop on display

Of course one of my favorite things about the old shop is as you enter your hear the creak of the old wood floors and the snuffling warm nose of the owners darling doggo.

Smelling espresso , fresh breads, creaking floors and warm doggy is my idea of a perfect day out marketing

All the old shelves and fixtures remain and now hold high end oils and pasta and all sorts of lovely ingredients for making a wonderful meal.

Old wooden shelves that have held good stuffs for centuries
They have a great selection of imported cheeses and meats and also make some fun ready made sandwiches.

This French Cheese is wonderful

In the next room is all the wine on three walls and here is where one can order coffee. They make a great Latte, which I got, and it's nice to sip it and look out on the misty New England street.

Old Antique pieces used as counters and display

Fellow early risers out with their dogs and the mist of the late Winter air gives one a cosy feeling.

Looking outside the back window here you can see the little garden surrounded by a hedge. Today the big brick Pizza oven is shrouded for Winter.

But in the Summer months tables and chairs are set about and the garden is full of flowers. The wonderful smell of baking woodfired pizza is accompanies by live music and great Sangria.

(not my image but lovely Summer days)

The main part of the shop has the old tin celings added in the Victorian days over the more spartan look of the Colonial that preceded it.

And I love the intermix of old and new, like the wonderful old flow blue porcelain adorning cabinets selling modern day snacks and tidbits.

The checkout counter is even the old wooden counters that once held dry goods and others for ancestors purchases.

11marchHive12.jpg

They have Iggy's bread delivered daily from NYC and our English roots here in New England are never too far, as you can just make out the funny little statue of the Queen in the window.

11marchHive8.jpg

Thus, leaving The Brown Jug after a wonderful marketing morning one will have a good loaf of bread, some delicious cheese, a fresh hot Latte and a warm hand from so many loving pats on the dear old dog.

A great way to spend any #Marketfriday in my books. I hope you enjoyed the shop here in our old Village on Cape Cod. And I hope you find a moment to get out and share some of your favorite marketing adventures on #marketfriday. I look forward to seeing them.

This makes me so nostalgic for home and all things New England. I love the little villages and although there are many little villages here in the Washington, DC area, it is very different than there. I get such a warm, welcome home feel when I walk into shops like that, the smoothed wood from decades of decades has gone by. They look like they have a nice selection of wine, and judging by the quality of the other items they carry, I have no doubt that this is the place I would want to go. The cheese is yummy! I love their buyer. I am a great aficionado of special olive oils and balsamic vinegar. If I don't make my own pasta, I like a little specialty one, something to make the dinner memorable.

The pizza oven is such a draw for me! I do love it. My kind of place! This reminds me of a place in Bar Harbor, right on Main Street! Thanks so much for sharing it. Doggo was a magic touch! This was a great post! Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday! I cannot tell you how pleased I am to see so many participating every week. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, especially the small things that go unnoticed except by those looking for it. Life is interesting, wherever you are, whatever you are doing.

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers markets and eventually branching out and evolving over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact of what is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
