A Sketch and a painting of another Koi mermaid - "The trusted servant"

One was only as presentable as the ability of one's Ladie's maid

At least that was Cordelia's view on the matter.

One's options could be limited in the sea. For instance one might have no arms at all and live in the sea; surely most of it's occupants possessed that limited amount of appendages.

However, Cordelia had Chambers and she was rather endowed with arms

Chambers was the best sort of Ladie's maid : she had good sense, an up to the date knowledge of the latest styles to dress hair, and arms to boot.

She also had the added skill of squeezing herself into the tiniest of crevices if, say one's clamshell compact became wedged in a coral reef edge, she'd compress and slip right in to the rescue.

Cordealia was lucky in her Trusted servant.

As my previous post and arwork showed, I do love the concept of a Koi mermaid. Our lady Cordelia is no different and she happily dons the tail of a koi.

I start with a sketch, scan it and move digitally.

As I've oft mentioned, once I get a piece digital it's such fun to just pop in color.
Here I was playing with the lines in her dress. Whilst yesterday's Koi mermaid was regaled in a walking gown of the 1870's today's mermaid is more 'modern' in her early 20th century garb.

The empire waist had a short return in the early 19teens and pre WWI fashion had a short flirt with the Regency period before the war came and everything changed in fashion.

I can't help but go a bit Pop art once a sketch is in the computer

The freedom of color and easy removal really pushes the boundaries and I so love color and playing with combinations it's hard to not have such fun.

Cordelia now happily swims in turquoise seas and a gown of blues and greens happily served by her Trusted ladie's maid, Chambers in fuchsia and purples.

I know Koi cannot live in the salt of the sea
but the fantasy of the thing is just too tempting, why shouldn't our freshwater mermaid have a seaside (or rather sea-inside) home and an appropriate salty staff?

The magic of art is creating the worlds you want

And to close out, a lovely GIF just for fun:

I hope you enjoyed my second Koi mermaid and her brief Tale of her trusted octopus servant as well as her long orange and white koi Tail.

I hope you find a moment in your day to indulge your passions and as always remember to stay creative.
