Three-Hour Live Art Class on Proportions

Today, July 26, 2023, I attended a three-hour live class on proportions conducted by the dean of a local art school that is promoting their Fine Arts course. The class was conducted in a very posh hotel within the central business district in the metro.

First, we were given a task to diagnose our knowledge on proportions. We were given an illustration of basic shapes and were instructed to copy it, outline only. My drawing is below.

As I have not been drawing for a while (i.e. years), I kinda forgot about the rules on making grids and making right proportions, so my drawing was sort of drawn freehand. I did, however, employ some basic proportioning by taking note of the relative distances between the different points of the various shapes. Not enough to make a good representation, though.

After the diagnostic drawing, a brief lecture was given which explained the principles of proportions and how to properly make them, including doubling the size of the copy or reducing it in half.

Then we proceeded to do the exercise. The model with the grid is below.

Then my version is below (so bad! Haha!):

They are offering a Fine Arts course which starts in August. I plan on enrolling. My art journey spanning four decades is about to continue!
