First off, I hope you all had a very IRIE Christmas and will have an IRIE New Year. Here it’s already the 31st I write this at the in-laws house.

I’ve been saving this can of ackee for over a year. The exact expiration date was Dec. 26th, 2023. So of course it became part of the Xmas spread. For me, actually the main. I’m missing home 🏠 my roots home, Jamaica, so the best way to feel the vibes is to eat the traditional dish of my land, Ackee and Salt-fish.

Usually ackee would be served with fried dumplings or “food” ( yams, green bananas etc) but instead I used something lighter and way easier to prepare and that was tortillas. So I guess this is a Jamaican 🇯🇲 Mexican 🇲🇽 dish.

Honestly, I haven’t cooked in months, but it was obvious to me as I prepped the seasoning ( onions, peppers and garlics, salt-fish etc) I actually like cooking. Ackee is also very simple to prepare especially from the can. ( fresh is best of course). And tortillas are inexpensive bought ready made and only take a few seconds to heat up on the stove.

The kids have no interest in even trying this dish, sad but more for me the following day:). These pictures are actually from my Xmas morning as Xmas Eve is the big dinner day here. It was a great dish to get a little taste of Jamaica and celebrate the holidays. I really do recommend other Jamaicans try ackee tortillas as you probably already know what a tortilla tastes like, you can imagine how good this was.

I haven’t figured out how to roll these well, but as long as it fits in your mouth right? What have you or would you stuff a tortilla with?

How have things been for yah in the season?

Looking forward to a great 2023 filled with more creativity and livity.

The tortilla with ackee looks inviting. Too bad it's already done for 😂.

I’ve been saving this can of ackee for over a year.

I was already asking you in my head where you got it from and how long you've saved it, until I read this line 🤣.

Happy New Year to you and your family! 🎆🎆🎆

In Suriname we usually have lots of fireworks around New Year's Eve and New Year and the party scene has picked up again this year. Unfortunately, we're not there to experience it.

Happy New Year 🥳 to you guys. I can imagine the feeling of excitement being together and celebrating in a different place and on the other-hand missing home 🏡 in the season.

Well, party will always be there, fireworks too. But yeah, the vibe of the island parties is something else.

The ackee, gonna have ask somebody send me some from the states or UK. The shipping be expensive 😯 have to wonder if it’s worth it.

@dmilliz Happy New Year, I love fish, I think it's delicious and the way you prepare it looks very good, I also miss the food at home, we usually make fish soup and a lot of spice on these dates; So I understand you, enjoy your delicious food.🐟😁

Happy New Year to you too dear! This fish was mi Imao in this dish but was a big part of the taste, I don’t think the dish would survive without it. Over the last few days I’ve had so much sushi I don’t think I need anymore till spring 😂

Up top. Glad to see a Jamaican show casing our food and culture. You even mixed it up with some Mexican culture. Bless up

Haha respect ✊🏿 had to improvise as fried dumpling Tane too long and too messy. The tortillas are real quick, probably healthier too.

😃This is such a good idea. Almost like ackee patties. I love especially Linstead Market ackee. Never tried it with tortilla. I’ll try it when I get a ton of ackee. Lol’
Looks like an irie meal and a great way to celebrate a Jamaican Christmas. 🎶

Yea man the linsted market ackee don't mash up as much as others. Heard about a brand from Haiti that have some thick ackees. Longing to eat fresh from a tree 🌳

You know @missaj have the link, him seem to be getting Jamaican goods all the time.
