Luego de estar leyendo (ya por tercera vez) la increíble saga de George R.R Martin, Canción de Hielo y Fuego, no podía dejar de compartir mi Top 10 de personajes favoritos. Este corresponde solo a los dos primeros libros: Juego de Tronos y Choque de Reyes. Sabemos que la historia de Hielo y Fuego nunca deja de evolucionar así que iré actualizando está lista en la medida que vaya avanzando en la lectura.

Top 10 de Canción de Hielo y Fuego. Libros: Juego de Tronos y Choque de Reyes
10-Meñique
Este personaje es un profundo conocedor del Juego de Tronos, Meñique hace eclipsar a muchos señores importantes con su sagacidad, inteligencia y crueldad. Gracias a él entendí lo complejo de este mundo de Hielo y Fuego y las interminables intrigas y moral de aquellos en el poder.
A pesar de su interminable sed de poder, el personaje muestra señales de humanidad, su reprimido amor por Catelyn, que más tarde traslada a Sansa, nos permite soñar con la imagen de lo que hubiese sido un hombre diferente si hubiese encontrado el amor en su momento. Sería interesante imaginar todo lo que hubiese conseguido de nacer bajo un apellido importante.
Quisiera leer capítulos desde su punto de vista en el futuro. Espero que Martin no se olvide de este traidor encantador.
El tratamiento que se le concedió en la última temporada de la serie televisiva me pareció frívolo y decepcionante. Este gran personaje merecía un mejor final.
Esperemos, entonces, los destinos que la historia le tiene reservados en los próximos libros.
9-Samuel Tarly
Samuel tiene su propia historia, su propio camino. Un joven con muchos talentos pero nacido en una época demasiado brutal, donde la fuerza física y la destreza con las armas definían el destino de los hombres. Sam es atormentado constantemente por no estar a la altura de los requerimientos de la época, en lo que se pudiera llamar un caso de bullying medieval.
Este personaje es uno de los que más crecimiento experimenta a medida que avanza la historia. Otra vez Martin haciendo gala de su maestría creando "secundarios."
Gracias a su personaje, y por todo lo que tiene que pasar, podemos medir la valía de uno de los personajes principales: Jon Snow. La manera en que Jon saca la cara por su amigo nos develan rasgos de su personalidad y su carácter. Sam y Jon forman un dúo delicioso de leer.
Vale la pena reflexionar acerca del destino que se le confería a los muchachos que no cumplían con los estándares establecidos en la época medieval. Usualmente terminaban en monasterios (si eran lo afortunados para permitirse pagar uno) o quedaban relegados a tareas menores, por siempre señalados con el dedo y descartados.
Nuestro Samuel sufre eso pero lo hace sin perder la candidez que lo caracteriza y que es su superpoder.
8-Robb
Me encanta como Martin no hizo de este personaje un cascarón vacío. El Joven Lobo es la personificación del joven príncipe medieval. Tiene todas las características de los príncipes a los que estamos acostumbrados a leer en el género de fantasía; buen jinete, diestro con las armas, valiente.
En cambio, en la novela vemos a un adolescente de 15 años, amoroso de sus hermanos, atento a los consejos de su madre y obligado a dejar la niñez para pelear en una guerra brutal.
Leer sobre las batallas del Rey en el Norte contra los Lannister, nos hacen ilusionarnos con la idea de la victoria. Aprendemos lo que debe (y no debe hacer) un líder para ganarse el respeto de sus tropas y conducirlos a la guerra.
No adelantaré el final de Robb para no hacer spoilers, pero con este tipo de desenlace Martin nos dice que juega en serio al Juego de Tronos y que nadie está seguro.
7-Davos
Davos es un hombre de baja cuna, sin títulos pero con un sentido del honor mayor que muchos de los caballeros de la Guardia Real. Gracias a su personaje aprendemos como la gente humilde sufre las batallas del reino, apostando todo lo que tiene al señor que le ha tocado servir.
Al tratarse de un marinero experimentado, Martin nos hace recorrer con él los mares y ríos de Poniente y de esta manera aprender más de este mundo. Pero Davos no es sólo un marinero, es un gran padre, un leal amigo y un contrabandista experto. Su poder de negociación será puesta a prueba muchas veces.
El Caballero de la Cebolla para mí es un placer de leer. Gracias a sus capítulos se abre el juego y podemos conocer Rocadragon y sus impetuosas tormentas. También podemos conocer de cerca a Stannis Baratheon, este frío e inflexible señor, pero el mejor Rey que pudiera tener Poniente y el legítimo heredero, (es mi criterio personal)
La narración de la Batalla del Aguas Negras, en Choque de Reyes, empieza desde la perspectiva de Davos en lo que, para mí, es el capítulo mejor narrado de ese libro.
6-Bran
El hecho de que Martin dejara lisiado al primer personaje con que empieza la saga, un niño encantador, garantizó que no pudiera permanecer imparcial ante nada de lo que le pase. Esto pudiéramos interpretarlo como un recurso narrativo potente que garantiza absoluta empatía e interés.
Mucho son los avatares que pasa este muchacho junto a la pequeña compañía que reúne, pero su determinación de encontrar al objeto de su misión y esas habilidades mágicas que solo este Stark posee, nos hace confiar en que sabrá salir airoso. Además, gracias a Bran y a su trama podemos mirar al pasado y aprender de la historia de Poniente y maravillarnos de su grandeza.
A veces confundo el camino de Bran con los avatares de Frodo en LOTR Siento mucho más que estoy en un mundo fantástico leyendo sus capítulos, y esto es algo bueno.
Sus capítulos son adictivos y si Martin comenzó su saga por él, debe ser por algo.
También por Bran disfrutamos de Hodor, el gigante bueno y fiel, un personaje delicioso de leer.
5-Daenerys
La Madre de Dragones, Misa, la Sangre del Dragón, Daenerys, Dany. No creo que sea casual que podamos identificarla con tantos nombres. Ella es todos ellos. Un personaje destinado a la grandeza, a recuperar la gloria de su Casa, pero al mismo tiempo a romper la rueda y hacer las cosas de una forma diferente.
Creo que por eso es el personaje más popular de la serie televisiva (y también por el cuerpecito desnudo de Amelia Clarke ooohh😍) Al principio me ocasionaba pereza entrarle a sus capítulos, incluso me sentí tentado a saltármelos pero a medida que avanzó su trama empezó a crecer y a crecer ante mis ojos.
Ella es la chica de la que te puedes enamorar, también la reina que seguirías hasta el final y la enemiga que quisieras eliminar primero que a nadie. Lo tiene todo. Me encanta el morbo que les despierta a todos los desgraciados que se fijan en ella. Y es que nadie parece ser indiferente a esta chica de ojos violeta y cabellos dorados.
Aquí Martin redime la figura de la mujer en la literatura fantástica. Contrario a su antecesor J.R.R Tolkien , empodera a una chica y la hace capaz de liderar grandes fuerzas y aspirar a los mayores trofeos. Daenerys posee en su arsenal el equivalente a un arma de destrucción masiva (tiene fucking dragones 🔥) Con semejante poder, resta ver que hará con él.
Aún queda mucho por leer de Danenerys Targaryen.
4-Jon
Para mí Jon es el héroe, el clásico héroe y su trama apoya que luzca bien. Pero es mucho más que eso, es un muchacho melancólico y deseoso de mostrar su valía. Es el Stark más Stark, debido a su temperamento y su estoicismo, también tiene el huargo más cool (Fantasma) Sus hermanos los aman, (a excepción de la estúpida Sansa, claro)
El protagonista principal para muchos. Junto con Daenerys hacen la combinación del Hielo y el Fuego. El bastardo de los Stark pasa por una auténtica Odisea al Norte del Muro, lo que le permite ir creciendo y ganando en relevancia, haciendo honor a su sangre real.
Desde la trama de Jon vemos el verdadero peligro al que se enfrentan en Poniente: Los Otros. Aunque en realidad no son más que zombies incluidos en un setting fantástico dan mucho miedo. Jon está hecho a la medida para el reto de enfrentar esa amenaza. Me hubiera gustado que se escapara del Muro para ayudar a Robb pero para Jon todo es código moral y esas tonterías.
Los últimos capítulos de la serie televisiva pusieron a Jon en situaciones ridículamente peligrosas, de las que siempre se las arreglaba para escapar. Esto afectó mucho su credibilidad. Esto espero no pase en el libro.
Martin, ¿me estás escuchando? ¡No permitas que suceda!
Tengo entendido que están preparando un spin off centrado completamente sobre Jon 😲😲😲 (sin aliento)

3-Arya
Esta es una CAMPEONA, a mí me mantuvo al borde de la página desde el comienzo. Las aventuras de Arya son muy interesantes y bien podrían ocupar un libro solo para ella. Constantemente estamos preocupados por lo que le pueda pasar y nos sorprendemos con las maneras en que resuelve cada conflicto.
Este personaje crece, se transforma y sale fortalecida de cada revés. Una chiquilla intrépida en un mundo medieval brutal, pasando por todo lo que ha pasado, y pasará... Es la que ha tenido que vérselas realmente sola, sin caballería, ni hermanos juramentados, ni Cuervo de Tres Ojos. Solo su ingenio y su inquebrantable deseo de venganza. Me encanta como en momentos de debilidad se repite su mantra vengativo. Brutal.
Es un personaje que también redime la figura de la mujer pues el destino de las chicas era apenas encontrar un buen esposo y engendrar descendencia. Con Arya vemos a la mujer guerrera, una auténtica amazona. Martin hace referencia constantemente a la princesa Nymeria, con la que Arya se siente identificada. Este es un detalle interesante pues pudiera convertirse en ese tipo de heroína.
Gracias a que Arya se la pasa viajando conocemos Poniente y a muchas de las casas principales. Leer sus capítulos es una oportunidad de conocer mejor este maravilloso universo y todas sus interioridades.
Ya que piensan hacer la serie televisiva de Jon, también deberían hacer la de Arya, sería mucho más interesante.
2-Catelyn
Catelyn es la Mariana Grajales de este mundo. (Mariana Grajales es una heroína cubana caracterizada por la firmeza con que alentaba a sus hijos al combate) Un personaje con muchos matices, muy humanos. Por un lado la esposa de un gran señor conocedora de su deber; no se casó por amor, se casó por deber y aprendió a amar a Ned porque ama su deber. Por otro lado una madre heroica; constantemente fue obligada a escoger de qué hijos se separaría, a quien perder. Y al mismo tiempo un ser humano imperfecto, lleno de miedos.
Mujer recia, estratega, gracias a ella aprendemos las maneras de la guerra y la necesidad de hacer alianzas y como mantenerlas, qué sacrificar, que nada es gratis, la mayoría de la gente traiciona y te traicionará. Con Catelyn todo es parte del Juego de Tronos y el ajedrez que implica.
Amo el desprecio que siente por Jon, es el hijo de su esposo con otra mujer, no podía ser de otra forma. Aquí Martin nos enseña a una persona de carne y hueso, insegura respecto al futuro de sus hijos, Jon es un bastardo pero en él, más que en nadie, parece brillar la personalidad de los Stark, por eso Catelyn no tolera su presencia.
También veo a Catelyn como un recurso narrativo. Es el tipo de personaje necesario para entender el cuadro completo, todo lo que está en juego. Todo lo que pasa bajo su mirada, todos los personajes que llegan a interactuar con ella serán claves más adelante. Catelyn hace que brillen los personajes a su alrededor, los ame o los odie.
Después de Bran, el segundo capítulo empieza con Catelyn y creo que Martin lo hace por algo. Hay mucho por esperar de ella en el futuro.
Sin lugar a dudas merece este lugar de honor dentro de esta lista.
1-Tyrion
El Gnomo es el personaje más brillante de toda esta saga, compensa su "discapacidad" con una inteligencia endulzada con un sarcasmo y temple extraordinarios. Apenas entró en escena me robó la atención. Aquí Martin hace gala de su maestría para hilar situaciones, sorprender y hacernos querer pasar la página una y otra vez.
Martin siempre dice que este es su preferido, el que más disfruta escribir, el que dice cosas que a él mismo le hubiera gustado decir. Sin dudas, la manera ingeniosa de salir de los problemas hace que te enamores inmediatamente de él.
Si Jon es el héroe clásico, Tyrion es el héroe real. La persona que duda, envidia, estafa, y tiene sus propias fallas morales. Nada es en blanco y negro con este personaje, todo tiene un costo, una consecuencia.
Al mismo tiempo su historia está llena de frustración, desamor y egoísmo. Solo quiere que lo amen y lo respeten y para conseguir eso está dispuesto a ser despiadado y odioso. Con Tyrion también vemos el trato discriminatorio que sufrían aquellas personas de apariencia diferente y lo difícil que era para ellas integrarse. El debe blindarse con una coraza para poder proteger sus verdaderos sentimientos.
Para mí Tyrion es el mejor Lannister, el mejor hijo de su padre, el mejor estratega y el que mejor juega el Juego de Tronos. Unos centímetros más de estatura y nada le hubiera negado alcanzar la gloria y el reconocimiento que tan desesperadamente busca.

I don't think anyone can resist the World of Ice and Fire. This vast universe is full of wonderful and well-crafted scenarios. But, above all, full of characters so fascinating and vivid, that it is hard to believe that they have never set foot in the real world.
After reading (already for the third time) George R.R Martin's incredible saga, A Song of Ice and Fire, I couldn't help but share my Top 10 favorite characters. This corresponds only to the first two books: Game of Thrones and Clash of Kings. We know that the story of Ice and Fire never stops evolving so I will update this list as I progress in the reading.

Top 10 of Song of Ice and Fire. Books: Game of Thrones and Clash of Kings.
10-Littlefinger
This character is a deep connoisseur of the Game of Thrones, Littlefinger eclipses many important lords with his shrewdness, intelligence, and ruthlessness. Thanks to him I understood how complex this world of Ice and Fire is and the endless intrigues and morals of those in power.
Despite his endless thirst for power, the character shows signs of humanity, his repressed love for Catelyn, which he later transfers to Sansa, allows us to dream with the image of what would have been a different man if he had found love at the time. It would be interesting to imagine all that he would have achieved had he been born under an important surname.
I would like to read chapters from his point of view in the future. I hope Martin doesn't forget about this charming traitor.
I found the treatment accorded him in the last season of the TV series frivolous and disappointing. This great character deserved a better ending.
Let's wait, then, for the destinies that history has in store for him in the next books.
9-Samuel Tarly
Samuel has his own story, his path. A young man with many talents but born in a time too brutal, where physical strength and skill with weapons defined the destiny of men. Sam is constantly tormented for not living up to the requirements of the time, in what could be called a case of medieval bullying.
This character is one of the characters that experience the most growth as the story progresses. Once again Martin shows off his mastery in creating "secondary characters".
Thanks to his character, and all that he has to go through, we can measure the worth of one of the main characters - Jon Snow. The way Jon sticks up for his friend reveals traits of his personality and character. Sam and Jon make a delightful duo to read.
It is worth reflecting on the fate that was conferred on boys who did not meet the standards set in medieval times. They usually ended up in monasteries (if they were fortunate enough to afford one) or were relegated to menial tasks, forever fingered and discarded.
Our Samuel suffers from this but does so without losing the candor that characterizes him and is his superpower.
8-Robb
I love how Martin didn't make this character an empty shell. The Young Wolf is the personification of the young medieval prince. He has all the characteristics of the princes we are used to reading about in the fantasy genre; good horseman, skilled with weapons, brave.
Instead, in the novel we see a 15-year-old teenager, loving of his siblings, attentive to his mother's advice, and forced to leave childhood to fight in a brutal war.
Reading about the King's battles in the North against the Lannisters, we become deluded by the idea of victory. We learn what a leader must (and must not) do to earn the respect of his troops and lead them to war.
I won't fast-forward Robb's ending so as not to make spoilers, but with this kind of denouement, Martin tells us that he is serious about playing Game of Thrones and that no one is safe.
7-Davos
Davos is a low-born man, without titles but with a sense of honor greater than many of the knights of the Kingsguard. Thanks to his character we learn how humble people suffer the battles of the realm, betting everything they have on the lord they have been assigned to serve.
Being an experienced sailor, Martin makes us travel with him the seas and rivers of Westeros and thus learn more of this world. But Davos is not just a sailor, he is a great father, a loyal friend, and an expert smuggler. His bargaining power will be put to the test many times.
The Onion Knight for me is a pleasure to read. Thanks to its chapters the game opens up and we can get to know Rocadragon and its impetuous storms. We can also know closely Stannis Baratheon, this cold and inflexible lord, but the best King that could have Westeros and the rightful heir, (is my criteria)
The narration of the Battle of the Blackwater, in Clash of Kings, begins from Davos' perspective in what, for me, is the best-narrated chapter of that book.
6-Bran
The fact that Martin crippled the first character with whom the saga begins, a charming boy, guaranteed that he could not remain impartial to anything that happens to him. This could be interpreted as a powerful narrative resource that guarantees absolute empathy and interest.
There are many vicissitudes that this boy goes through with the small company he gathers, but his determination to find the object of his mission and those magical abilities that only this Stark possesses, make us trust that he will succeed. In addition, thanks to Bran and his plot we can look into the past and learn about the history of Westeros and marvel at its greatness.
I sometimes confuse Bran's path with Frodo's avatars in LOTR I feel much more like I am in a fantasy world reading your chapters, and this is a good thing.
His chapters are addictive and if Martin started his saga because of him, it must be for a reason.
Also because of Bran, we enjoy Hodor, the good and faithful giant, a delightful character to read.
5-Daenerys
The Mother of Dragons, Misa, the Dragon's Blood, Daenerys, Dany. I don't think it's accidental that we can identify her with so many names. She is all of them. A character destined for greatness, to regain the glory of her House, but at the same time to break the wheel and do things differently.
I think that's why she is the most popular character in the TV series (and also because of Amelia Clarke's naked little body ooohh😍) At first I was lazy to get into her chapters, I was even tempted to skip them but as her plot progressed she started to grow and grow before my eyes.
She is the girl you can fall in love with, also the queen you would follow to the end and the enemy you would want to eliminate first before anyone else. She has it all. I love the morbid curiosity she arouses in all the bastards who notice her. No one seems to be indifferent to this girl with violet eyes and golden hair.
Here Martin redeems the figure of women in fantasy literature. Contrary to his predecessor J.R.R Tolkien ,he empowers a girl and makes her capable of leading great forces and aspiring for the greatest trophies. Daenerys possesses in her arsenal the equivalent of a weapon of mass destruction (she has f... dragons 🔥) With such power, it remains to be seen what she will do with it.
There is still much to read about Daenerys Targaryen.
4-Jon
For me, Jon is the hero, the classic hero and his plot supports that he looks good. But he is much more than that, he is a brooding lad eager to show his worth. He is the most Stark Stark, due to his temperament and his stoicism, he also has the coolest dire wolf (Ghost). His brothers love them, (except for the stupid Sansa, of course).
The main protagonist for many. Together with Daenerys, they make the combination of Ice and Fire. The Stark bastard goes through a real Odyssey North of the Wall, which allows him to grow and gain relevance, honoring his royal blood.
From Jon's plot, we see the real danger they face in Westeros: The Others. Although in reality, they are nothing more than zombies included in a fantastic setting they are very scary. Jon is tailor-made for the challenge of facing that threat. I would have liked to see him escape the Wall to help Robb but for Jon, it's all moral code and nonsense.
The last few episodes of the TV series put Jon in ridiculously dangerous situations that he always managed to escape from. This affected his credibility a lot. This hopefully won't happen in the book.
Martin, are you listening to me?, don't let it happen!

And now, the Top 3
(Drum roll 🥁😁)
3-Arya
This one is a CHAMPION, it kept me on the edge of the page from the beginning. Arya's adventures are very interesting and could very well take up a book just for her. We are constantly worried about what might happen to her and are amazed at the ways she resolves each conflict.
This character grows, transforms, and emerges stronger from every setback. A fearless little girl in a brutal medieval world, going through all that has happened and will happen... She is the one who has had to face it alone, with no knighthood, no sworn brothers, no Three-Eyed Raven. Just her wits and her unwavering desire for revenge. I love how in moments of weakness she repeats her vengeful mantra. Brutal.
It is a character that also redeems the figure of the woman because the fate of the girls was just to find a good husband and beget offspring. With Arya, we see the warrior woman, a true Amazon. Martin constantly refers to Princess Nymeria, with whom Arya feels identified. This is an interesting detail as she could become that kind of heroine.
Thanks to the fact that Arya spends her time traveling we get to know Westeros and many of the main houses. Reading her chapters is an opportunity to get to know better this wonderful universe and all its inner workings.
Since they plan to make Jon's TV series, they should also make Arya's, it would be much more interesting.
2-Catelyn
Catelyn is the Mariana Grajales of this world (Mariana Grajales is a Cuban heroine characterized by the firmness with which she encouraged her children to fight) On the one hand, the wife of a great lord knows her duty; she did not marry for love, she married for duty and learned to love Ned because she loves her duty. On the other hand a heroic mother; was constantly forced to choose which children she would part with, and whom to lose. And at the same time an imperfect human being, full of fears.
A strong woman, and strategist, thanks to her we learn the ways of war and the need to make alliances and how to keep them, what to sacrifice, that nothing is free, and most people betray and will betray you. With Catelyn, it's all part of the Game of Thrones and the chess involved.
I love the contempt she has for Jon, he is her husband's son with another woman, and it couldn't be otherwise. Here Martin shows us a flesh and blood person, insecure about the future of her children, Jon is a bastard but in him, more than in anyone else, the Stark personality seems to shine through, that's why Catelyn doesn't tolerate his presence.
I also see Catelyn as a narrative device. She is the kind of character needed to understand the big picture, all that is at stake. Everything that happens under her gaze, and all the characters that get to interact with her will be key later on. Catelyn makes the characters around her shine, love them or hate them.
After Bran, the second chapter starts with Catelyn and I think Martin does that for a reason. There is so much to look forward to from her in the future.
She certainly deserves this place of honor within this list.
1-Tyrion
The Imp is the most brilliant character in this entire saga, he compensates for his "disability" with an intelligence sweetened with extraordinary sarcasm and temper. As soon as he entered the scene he stole my attention. Here Martin displays his mastery at spinning situations, surprising and making us want to turn the page again and again.
Martin always says that this is his favorite, the one he most enjoys writing, the one that says things he would have liked to say. Undoubtedly, the witty way he gets out of trouble makes you fall in love with him immediately.
If Jon is the classic hero, Tyrion is the real hero. The person who doubts, envies, swindles, and has his moral failings. Nothing is black and white with this character, everything has a cost, a consequence.
At the same time, his story is full of frustration, unloved, and selfishness. He just wants to be loved and respected and to get that he is willing to be ruthless and hateful. With Tyrion, we also see the discriminatory treatment suffered by those people of different appearances and how difficult it was for them to integrate. He must armor himself with a breastplate to protect his true feelings.
For me, Tyrion is the best Lannister, the best son of his father, the best strategist, and the one who plays the Game of Thrones best. A few more inches taller and nothing would have denied him the glory and recognition he so desperately seeks.
