2023 fue el año en donde me convencí que mi camino tenía que ser el del emprendimiento.

Tengo apenas 38 años y ya acumulo 21 años de trabajo. Desde que, con 17 años, pisé por primera vez un aula (no como alumno, sino como profesor), no he parado de trabajar. Precisamente por eso la ilusión de buscar la libertad económica no se había apoderado de mi mente.

Pero 2023 se encargó de despertarme y de ponerme en el camino correcto.

Durante todos estos años me he dedicado a aprender; maestro, psicólogo, sonidista, músico, y he intentado superarme lo máximo posible en cada profesión. Mi esfuerzo ha sido recompensado. Todos los títulos y reconocimientos que he recibido me han probado que estudiar era lo mejor que podía hacer.

Pero entonces descubrí que la sociedad no tenía un plan para mí. Que mis conocimientos servían solo para optar por plazas más elevadas de salarios cada vez más bajos. Luego de la pandemia, la situación continuó deteriorándose hasta que solo pude divisar en la distancia aquello que nunca busqué pero que terminó buscándome a mí.

Porque los pobres no emprendemos para sumarnos a una tendencia, o ser contestatarios. Los pobres emprendemos porque necesitamos sobrevivir.

Y entonces, todo aquello que aprendí en mi vida se acumuló y me empezó a confundir. Porque intentar hacerlo todo es terminar haciendo nada. Hay que priorizar y escoger una dirección, si se quiere llegar a buen puerto.

El perro tiene cuatro patas, pero escoge un solo camino.

Para avanzar hay que saber qué potenciar, pero sobre todo qué soltar.

¿Qué soltar?

En mi caso, debo soltar responsabilidades. Creía que podía encontrar un equilibrio entre mi trabajo estatal y mis aspiraciones freelance pero no es posible. Lo primero asfixia a lo segundo y no le permite crecer. Así que, por primera vez en 21 años, mi trabajo de 9-5 va a quedar relegado al último lugar de la lista.

El lunes voy a pedir la baja.

Trabajo en la radio, soy realizador de sonido. Es un lástima, porque me gusta lo que hago, pero si quiero apostar por este camino (realmente no estoy apostando, porque estoy seguro que conseguiré mis objetivos), entonces nada puede interponerse en el medio. Me quedaré en otra emisora de menor importancia (apenas para sobrevivir lo justo) para tener tiempo libre para construir un negocio alrededor de las habilidades que he desarrollado.

¿Qué potenciar?

La escritura.

Creo que estamos en una época excelente para los escritores, como nunca antes. La Internet ha creado toda una serie de oportunidades para todos, pero, en particular, para los escritores. Existen muchas opciones para ganarnos la vida con nuestras letras, las suficientes para motivar al indeciso:

• Escribir libros de ficción y autopublicarse.
• Escribir guiones audiovisuales para canales de Youtube.
• Escribir anuncios y campañas de marketing (copywriting).
• Escribir contenido para blogs y páginas web propias o de terceros.
• Escribir para personas que no tienen el tiempo o el talento para hacerlo (escritura fantasma).
• Escribir para plataformas digitales y monetizar la atención de los lectores. (Hive es uno de los mejores ejemplos que conozco).

Y se me quedan algunas, estoy seguro.

En 2024 voy a potenciar mi escritura, ese talento dormido que a lo largo de 21 años se formó en silencio y ahora está listo para explotar.

Así que pienso darle vía y que ella indique el camino a partir de ahora.

2023 was the year in which I became convinced that my path had to be that of entrepreneurship.

I am only 38 years old and I have already accumulated 21 years of work. Since I first stepped into a classroom at the age of 17 (not as a student, but as a teacher), I have not stopped working. Precisely because of this, the illusion of seeking economic freedom had not taken hold of my mind.

But 2023 woke me up and put me on the right path.

During all these years I have dedicated myself to learning; teacher, psychologist, sound engineer, and musician, and I have tried to improve myself as much as possible in each profession. My efforts have been rewarded. All the degrees and awards I have received have proven to me that studying was the best thing I could do.

But then I discovered that society had no plan for me. That my knowledge served only to qualify for higher positions with lower and lower salaries. After the pandemic, the situation continued to deteriorate until I could only see in the distance that which I never sought but which ended up seeking me.

**Because the poor do not undertake to join a trend, or to be contentious. We poor people undertake because we need to survive.

And then, everything I learned in my life accumulated and began to confuse me. Because trying to do everything is to end up doing nothing. You have to prioritize and choose a direction if you want to get to a good port.

**The dog has four legs but chooses only one path.

To move forward you have to know what to empower, but above all what to let go of.

What to let go of?

In my case, I have to let go of responsibilities. I thought I could find a balance between my job and my freelance aspirations but it is not possible. The former suffocates the latter and doesn't allow it to grow. So, for the first time in 21 years, my 9-5 job is going to be relegated to the bottom of the list.

On Monday I'm going to ask for a leave of absence.

I work in radio, I am a sound producer. It's a pity because I like what I do, but if I want to bet on this path (I'm not betting, because I'm sure I will achieve my goals), then nothing can stand in the way. I'll stay at another minor station (barely enough to survive) to have free time to build a business around the skills I've developed.

What to leverage?

Writing.

I think we are in a great time for writers like never before. The Internet has created a whole host of opportunities for everyone, but particularly for writers. There are so many options for making a living from our writing, enough to motivate the undecided:

• Writing fiction books and self-publishing.
• Writing scripts for YouTube channels.
• Writing advertisements and marketing campaigns (copywriting).
• Write content for your own or third-party blogs and websites.
• Writing for people who do not have the time or talent to do it (ghostwriting).
• Writing for digital platforms and monetizing readers' attention (Hive is one of the best examples I know).

And I'm missing a few, I'm sure.

In 2024 I'm going to empower my writing, that dormant talent that over 21 years formed silently and is now ready to explode.

So I plan to give it some room and let it lead the way from now on.
