The simplicity of the Global Shopping Center
Hello everyone! It's a pleasure for me to be back after a couple of weeks away from the community. I've had some complicated days with my health, but I'm practically recovered to get back to action. In this opportunity, I share with you a mall that I have always ignored since it is not the busiest nor is it one of the most indispensable in my city, it is small and with a misleading location. This mall was formerly a famous tobacco company, that was many years ago, so I do not remember seeing that company in operation, however, the general population remembers it quite well.
Thus, the Global Shopping Center took part of the structure of the old tobacco factory to become a totally different space. Obviously a remodeling was necessary to adapt the structure to a more conventional, comfortable and modern one, adjusted to the times that were approaching. However, in the photos it is evident that it remained a simple structure without many aesthetic arrangements, but totally suitable for the commercial purposes that were aspired. This shopping center is located between Bolivar Avenue at the height of the Urbanization La Barraca.
As you will see in the following photos, the structure is basically gray, it is a single-story, but quite high in terms of height. It has several entrances perfectly distributed considering the ample space it has, these entrances are easily identified by the wide ceilings they have and by the name and logo of the shopping center at the top. Previously there was a supermarket there, its name was San Diego, that's why you can see the initials SD on one of the entrances, but I guess the economic situation made them close operations there.
The parking lot is quite ample, in fact, I consider it to be very large considering the proportions of the mall, I can't imagine it full of cars at its maximum capacity. There is a part of the parking lot that is roofed, but in reality there is a structure in the upper part where the administrative and operational offices of the mall are located, the dark and sealed windows are evidence of this. There is also a service structure in which I suppose the electrical plant, the water purification plant, among other indispensable elements for the proper functioning of the mall are located.
Towards Bolivar Avenue, is the one that in theory is the main entrance, the structure on that side is shorter, but it is the one that has greater visibility. Thanks to the last mentioned, it is full of advertisements from beginning to end. It is noticeable that towards that entrance is concentrated the largest number of commercial establishments, in the previous photos you could notice that towards the outside there are not many operating establishments, I think this is due to what I mentioned above, because of the visibility.
The internal part is limited to only a few corridors (some of them very poorly lit) and a large area where the food court is located. As I walk through these corridors I notice the large number of establishments that are closed, especially considering that I was there on a Saturday. There is only one establishment that seems to be fully operational and that is the one dedicated to the sale of household appliances.
Thus, the Global mall plays a fundamental role in terms of references for the citizens, most of them know it as the old tobacco factory, while for the younger ones it is nothing more than the “Global”. It is an important meeting point, but it needs more activity to return to its best times. It was a pleasure to share with you one more structure of my city, Maracay, a big hug to all of you!

Hey @dinaaczib you are welcome.
Thanks for using @worldmappin 😘
I remember passing by Bolivar Avenue and looking at the old tobacco company, I have a vague recollection that it had a big sign that said "Tabacalera, Maracay", that's how old I am. 🤭
Months ago I walked inside the mall and it seemed dark, I felt sad it's depressing, it had more life when the market was active.
Thanks for your great review. @dinaaczib 😉
If I've been told about the existence of that place, it's really sad and dark! I think it's always been a bit lonely though. I'm glad to see it still standing though, thanks for stopping by!
Adaptive reuse happens quite often in the architecture world and is a great strategy when repurposing old buildings. The transformation of a tobacco factory into a modern mall was a smart move. I admire its minimalistic aesthetic, adding to the simplicity, practicality, and functionalism of its commercial nature. Awesome project @dinaaczib! ☺️
Yes it was a good idea to do it, the only thing was that I felt that place a little lonely, or at least to what I am used to see, there was a lot of sun and heat that day maybe that's why. Thank you very much for your kind support!😇
Nowadays, going the minimalistic route when designing commercial establishments like modern malls is more pragmatic. Apart from the overall experience of shoppers, the trading of products and services is a priority. Gorgeous landmark @dinaaczib! ☺️
That's right! what would we do if these places didn't exist! the truth is that I like the minimalist theme, the simpler the better for me! greetings!🤗
Hi @dinaaczib, it is amazing that the mall in the past was the headquarters of a tobacco factory, they did a great job of remodeling by adapting its spaces to house different clothing stores, food appliances, among others, a smart way to take advantage of the building.
Greetings!
If it was an old tobacco factory, they took full advantage of the place! thanks for stopping by Belkys!😀
