A Terrific Traffic Experience.

Whenever I hear the word “traffic”, another word that comes to my mind is “Lagos”. It's no news that this mega city is one of the congested states in Nigeria and so, traffic jams are inevitable here. I strongly doubt there's any Lagosian or resident that can't relate to the cumbersome traffic associated with the city.

I'm also no stranger to that fact as I've equally had my fair share of traffic troubles in Lagos, especially during my days at highschool. However, my worst traffic jam experience didn't happen in Lagos as expected. It actually happened in another part of my country which I can't recall now.

Two years ago, my Dad and I were traveling to my hometown in his private car. The window regulators of his car became faulty and the windows couldn't wind down. Now, I know you must be thinking, how can one drive a car where the windows are closed? Well, as bad as it may sound, it wasn't so bad given that the air conditioners were working just fine. In fact, it was bearable and the journey was actually going smooth until we met with a long traffic along the way.

Thirty minutes passed and before we knew it, we had spent three hours in the same spot, it was terrible. Our car started to heat up and the air-conditioner became pretty much useless. I'm sure you can now imagine the details. Oh yes, heat is an understatement… we were literally burning and melting like hell!

I had to fan myself with a piece of paper as I was sweating profusely. My Dad and I didn't even mind the onlookers who were wondering how it was possible for one to sweat so much in their own car. At some point we began to open the doors a bit at intervals but it wasn't of much help neither was it safe to do so. You know, I still wonder how I managed to survive that incident without passing out. I'll say it's just God.

During the traffic that seemed to move at a snail's pace, I went through series of nausea, dizziness, fever, and headache. It was so bad that I had the urge to escape and run off like a madwoman. Never in my life had I met such crazy traffic. The most annoying thing is that till today, I do not know what caused that traffic that had turn a 3-hour trip into a 10-hour trip. Thankfully, we arrived our destination safely even though late and my Dad got the car repaired immediately.

Since that day, I developed this phobia for traffic. I love having a fast and smooth journey but when I see cars piled up and moving slowly, I feel uneasy. It's like I catch some sort of motion sickness from traffic jams. And that is just why I detest traffic so much. I really can't stand it.

P.S. This post is in response to the @hive-learners weekly posting topics for week 27 edition 2 on the title; “Traffic Troubles”.

That sick moment that seems to go on forever, you want to lie down and at the same time you want to seat up. The sickness is on another level entirely.

Thank you for sharing this with us.
