Brick Gothic Stralsund [Part1]
Hello my HIVEly friends!
I managed to get my family to a really safe place. It is getting more and more difficult for me to fence off the maturing daughter from the fact of the presence and sounds of war! 40km to the front line
But my today's post is not about that, it's just that the mountain fell off my shoulders, I wanted to share my boundless joy and a sense of long-awaited security!
Stralsund is located on the Baltic coast of Pomerania - opposite the island of Rügen. In the Middle Ages, it was one of the most important cities of the German Hansa. There are many sights included in the UNESCO heritage list.
It is also called the reserve of brick gothic and the history of the ancient Hanseatic League.
The question of dates is debatable, but since ancient times there was an important trading port through which Russian furs, Swedish iron, Dutch cloth, German wines and much more were traded. It is located at the crossroads of important trade routes, which led to the rapid pace of development of the city and the grandeur of its architecture.
In general, when planning a trip to unfamiliar places, you should decide in advance on the places that are worth visiting, and at least briefly get acquainted with the information about these places in order to know what you are looking at and where to pay attention.
This task could be removed from us by a guide, but it is better to be sure that the places that may be of interest to us will be included in our route. Guides are people too and can be tired/lazy/cunning))
One of the gates of the Church of St. Mary (Marienkirche) is a monument of brick Gothic architecture. Presumably built in 1298! It is considered one of the main monuments of late Gothic in Central Europe. The largest parish church in Stralsund
Maritime museum Ozeaneum in the old port of Stralsund. For lovers of historical and maritime themes, I recommend setting aside a separate day to visit this place. I think we'll still get there...
The historic center of Stralsund largely retained the layout and structure that were characteristic of the Hanseatic cities. Here, building codes have long been clearly spelled out allowing the new houses to be built only on the foundations of old ones, keeping blank firewalls between the buildings - walls made of fireproof materials that were supposed to prevent the spread of fires.
A very peculiar place that has managed to preserve its gothic authenticity. Very hospitable and kind inhabitants have their attitude.
We feel great here. For the first time in a whole year!
I got information about the place where I am located here, here, and here which allowed to save the money of the guide)
