You Don't Need Money
I know that we all are on a roller-coaster journey trying to eke a better life for ourselves and trying to leave our mark on the sands of time. Life they say is a journey and on every journey one needs transport fare, on-the-road upkeep money, and even money to get gifts for those whom we're visiting or returning to.
If life is truly like that, then we definitely need a lot of funds to be able to navigate the whole process over decades that we're expected to stroll through earth. I guess that's the reason we all are busy hustling through everything every day just to be able to survive the journey in the best conditions possible.
Under that circumstance, it would be quite easy to say that all what we need is money, money, and more money. But is that really the case? Is money really the crux of the matter? Or is money just an end product that requires other elements to be abundantly available?
Few days ago while taking a stroll, I read on someone's shirt the caption "Money Hates Nobody", which really got me thinking "why then do some get it in abundance, while others don't have at all?"
Most at times it's not because the rich work harder than the poor and in some cases, some of those who don't have break their backs more times than those who have. And sometimes even if you give these monies to those who do not have, they'll still return to point zero after some time.
So what then do we really need if not money? First on the roster is Value. Everything in life is meaningless up until humans have a need for it. It is then that whatsoever it is becomes valuable. Value isn't just about having a use case, it is about being able to solve a problem or to be a need which others require.
It is this value that now attracts other resources such as money and connections. With humans, value is tied closely to one's knowledge base. The depth of knowledge - and the exploitation of it - which one possesses to a large extent determines one's value. If you do not possess value rooted in knowledge, it will be very difficult if not impossible to acquire value based on money.
Knowledge based value is the path for a nobody to climb through the ranks and level up with kings and queens. If you are empty in the head, you can't expect to be full in the pockets. Life is a journey, and it's the company and help of fellow travelers that will help you get to your destination in happiness and one piece, but then it is the value that you possess that will attract the right passengers in the form of friends and acquaintances.
So instead of wasting time trying unsuccessfully to chase down money, go in the opposite direction and pursue value by improving your knowledge base and see how the money will in turn chase you down. But to become valuable in any sphere of life, one needs another very important quality which is "Discipline".
Discipline is simply doing what should be done when it should be done, not minding our emotional and physical state. To put it simply, discipline is the fuel that will drive you to the level of value that no one will be able to ignore.
Discipline transcends your feelings, your excuses, your sicknesses and whatever might stand to stop you from doing what you are supposed to do. Discipline is you saying no to your distractions which are usually fun and easy, just so you could concentrate on your job which is usually hard and boring.
No matter how talented and knowledgeable you are, if discipline is not imbibed you'll still end up on the tail end of the wealth business. Discipline is what will keep you on your toes to make sure that even when the money arrives, it will not be squandered and wasted away on frivolities. It involves rigidity and self-sacrifice to master.
Imagine that you've been able to inculcate the art of discipline and pursuit of value, then you're thinking what is next? That's where consistency comes into the fray. Consistency involves the repetition of a process over time till mastery is achieved. It is a term that is very much in vogue in the crypto and blockchain space.
Consistency here simply means to continue pursuing value and to keep being disciplined. In life you can never be too valuable or too disciplined. In fact the volume of your wealth is a function of the volume of your values. So it is in the continuous pursuit of value and discipline that wealth is not just acquired, but maintained.
So at the end of the day, our constant pursuit of money might lead us to depression, frustration and sometimes eventual death due to our inability to catch up with it. But in the pursuit of value, staying disciplined and consistent, we can attract not just money but generational wealth that would change the course of our lives. So it is not money that we need, but value through discipline and consistency.
