Carded Up
Jack always saw himself as living a mundane life, not because he was suffering, but because he was not doing what he's passionate about. He worked as an accountant in a small firm and went about his routine with little to no excitement. One day after being berated by his boss for coming into work just a few minutes late, Jack sat at his desk contemplating resignation.
"I would go broke and not be able to sort my bills" he thought
That was when he noticed the pile of mails on his table, so he decided to use it to distract himself. While sorting through his mail, Jack came across an unusual invitation card addressed to him.
It was a rather elegant invitation card, and Jack was surprised as he couldn't remember receiving an invite to any event. He opened the envelope, and the card read:
"You are cordially invited to the opening of a new art gallery. Join us for an evening of wine, hors d'oeuvres, and fine art. RSVP by the 12th of April."
Jack was intrigued. He loved art and had always wanted to attend an art exhibition. He checked the date on the invitation, and it was just seven days away. Jack immediately called the number on the invitation to RSVP, but the line was busy.
He tried several times, but it was always busy. Jack thought maybe the event was already full, and he had missed his chance to attend. Disappointed, Jack tossed the invitation in the trash and went about his day.
"I guess I was meant to be stuck here in my little boring cubicle" he whispered to himself looking around the office dejected.
Three days later, Jack received a call from an unknown number. The person on the other end introduced himself as the owner of the art gallery and apologized for missing his RSVP. The owner explained that the event was not full, and he was more than welcome to attend.
Jack was elated. He thanked the owner and quickly made arrangements to attend the event. On the day of the event, Jack arrived at the art gallery and was blown away by the stunning artwork on display. He spent hours admiring the paintings and sculptures, sipping wine, and enjoying the delicious hors d'oeuvres and waving randomly at strangers.
As the evening was coming to a close, Jack was still about, admiring the paintings and mumbering to himself. That was when he was approached by the owner of the gallery who reminded him of the fact that they were closing soon.
"oh, I'm sorry, I got lost in the elegance of the art on display"
"You love what you see here?"
"Absolutely! Just like this one by Jadon, I've followed his work for two years now and I love the way he uses colours on canvas to fuse in different emotions and produce very interesting and thoughtful arts that are both pleasing to see and reflective in its feel" Jack started and then goes on to analyze individual arts in the gallery, the artists and their message. Then, he pointed to the one on the east wall
"But that is my favorite, and the only one I don't know the artist"
"The artist's name is Thomas. He's relatively unknown, but I have a feeling he'll be famous someday," the man replied.
Jack was impressed and asked the owner if he could introduce him to Thomas. The owner agreed and introduced Jack to Thomas, who was at the event. They struck up a conversation, and Jack found out that Thomas was struggling to make ends meet and didn't have a gallery to showcase his artwork.
Jack felt a pang of sympathy for Thomas and offered to buy the painting he had admired. Thomas was hesitant, but Jack insisted. They struck a deal, and Jack left the gallery with the painting.
Over the next few weeks, Jack couldn't stop thinking about Thomas and his artwork. He decided to visit Thomas at his studio and see more of his artwork. The studio was an abandoned structure in the outskirts of the town, surrounded by fellow dilapidated buildings which gave it an ominous feel.
But what Jack saw inside the abandoned property was above impressive. It was an exhibition of Thomas's talent and genius. That was when Jack realized that he had stumbled upon a hidden gem. Jack immediately took out his phone and took photos of the different artworks at the studio.
On getting to the office the following day, Jack decided to use the office system to upload the artworks to all the art platforms he follows. To his utter surprise, his inbox was flooded with orders for the artworks, and within a fortnight all the artworks were sold out. Jack had discovered a new artist and had struck gold.
Jack and Thomas repeated the online process, and within months, they had raised enough money to partner and open an art gallery. Jack then quit his accountant job and decided to focus solely on his passion for art. On his way out he teased one of his colleagues
"Now you guys will be my accountants".

Art was certainly in your protagonist's blood. The invitation card set off a series of events that led to a completely new, fulfilling life. Sometimes people just need the opportunity to discover what they’re good at and that gift often arrives when they decide to assist someone less fortunate. Nicely done!
