What's buzzing, friends!

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be king? To decide the fate of everyone, and to be the ruler of an entire island? Well, we can't think of any other experience that would be cooler. So, what would you do if you were king?

If you were Faustin E. Wirkus, you may have just had the opportunity to live that experience.

When America was occupying Haiti around the 1915's, Wirkus, a member of the US Marine Corps, was stationed on the small Haitian island. As luck would have it, one day he saved a young woman who was in trouble. As it turns out, that young woman was Queen Timemenne of La Gonâve.

Further, luck for Wirkus was on his side. He shared the first name with the now dead former king, Faustin the 1st. Fast forward a bit, and in one Voodoo ritual on July 18th, 1926, he was named Faustin the 2nd, and married to the queen.

This new monarch lasted 3 years before being sent back home to the mainland in America when his service with the US Marine Corps ended.
