My Actifit RC: Jan 6rd 23 - I Am Alive Challenge #250 - Naples's center city tour

A dear greeting to all lovers of physical activities that populate the mythical community of Actifit.

The sky this morning seems that of a summer day were not for a curtain of gray clouds at high altitude on the horzon.

First I accompany Gaetano who must return to his mother and we celebrate together immediately my iamalivechallenge 250.

It is not a day when you can stay closed in the house and, checking the app moovit I see arriving a bus to Naples, is the signal that it’s time to get out. There is no traffic at this time in the city and immediately I arrived at Metro Line 1 to get to the old town.

Since I don’t have too much desire to stay closed in public transport these days I get off at the first useful stop or "Duomo".

Via Duomo this morning is a swarm of tourists who are more numerous of the colorful shades that can be seen climbing up the beautiful street of the historic center of Naples.

The climb ends at the height of Via San Biagio dei librai or the lower decumanus where I venture and discover that already in the early morning you walk at a walking pace for an endless tourist presence.

My stop is the legendary Via San Gregorio Armeno where the workshops of the master craftsmen of the crib are already full of tourists looking for some shepherd on sale.

After countless attempts, finally, I find the church of San Gregorio Armeno open to the public. But I soon found out that it was not possible to visit her since she was beginning Mass. Among my innumerable curses I decide to take a ride and to return as soon as the religious service ends.

Once in Piazza San Domenico Maggiore I visit the Prince of San Severo’s palace and at the end of the road I see an incredible turnout at the San Severo chapel, the tourist pearl of the Neapolitan city. At 10:30 in the morning the tickets were sold out for the whole day.

After a tour of Piazza del Gesù I returned to the church where the mass was finished. The church of San Gregorio Armeno is really a small Baroque and rococo masterpiece finely worked in gold. Most of the morning I spend here taking many photos of the interior.

The dome was frescoed by a wonderful Paradise that is taking over the years. The domes of the churches of Naples are the weak point of the ecclesiastical buildings due to the difficulties of maintenance and the countless natural disasters that the city has overcome over the millennia.

This is a church that now has almost two thousand years since its origins are probably datable to the fourth century after Christ thanks to the mother of Constantine who is supposed to have erected it.

The wealth of the church is due to the many noble maidens educated in their convents. This dowry allowed him to overcome the suppression of ecclesiastical orders by the revolutionary Joachim Murat.

After spending a lot of time in the center it’s time to return home for lunch and a series of coincidences in the public months allow me to return in time to cook my lunch that closes the Christmas holidays in my joy. Starting tomorrow I’ll resume my diet... Sunday permitting.
