My Actifit RC: Dec 12th 22 - I Am Alive Challenge in a tour of Naples between lights and shadows - IAAC #228

A dear greeting to all lovers of physical activities that populate the mythical community of Actifit.

A white and blue sky draws an extraordinary spectacle mixing with the imposing silhouette of Vesuvius and the picturesque murals that surround the station of the Circumvesuviana. This photo was taken from a friend’s flight of stairs that I visited this morning.

Back home I had lunch quickly because a fantastic sunny day was waiting for me to accompany me around Naples. Taking the bus I came to the old town in the Metro 2 station of Piazza Cavour. The city is increasingly congested with traffic as Christmas approaches.

The first stop today is at the "Galleria Principe di Napoli", seat of the bank of Naples, here there was a large barn that was then converted first into barracks and finally, after the Unification of Italy, into a commercial gallery.

This monumental gallery reflects the transformation of the city from an agricultural to an international trade zone.

After passing the tunnel instead of going towards via Toledo change route on the fly and I go up towards the tondo of Capodimonte to increase the difficulty of my walk. Anyway I found myself increased by a kg of weight and before Christmas I have to lose it somehow and if I miss one or two extra so much gained.

A roundabout above is the monumental Basilica of the Crowned Mother of Good Counsel. A church of fairly recent construction in neoclassical style built on the model of the Basilica of San Pietro in Rome.

In fact, it is considered a small-scale model of the papal ecclesiastical building.

The church symbolizes the difficulties and tenacity of growing up in the capital of Naples. The construction of the basilica took 40 years.

Begun after the First World War in 1920, it was completed in 1960 after several interruptions and a thousand difficulties to find the resources to build it.

On November 23, 1980 a catastrophic earthquake shook the Campania and the statue of the Madonna and child fell on the pavement cracking on the ground leaving the bust miraculously intact. The statue was then restored and put back in its place.

At the point where the statue was shattered was placed a slab of carved stone formed by a piece of the monument detached from the church during the earthquake

Moreover, the church was commissioned by Maria di Gesù Landi, a figure of great faith who helped the population to endure the cholera epidemic of 1884 and the eruption of Vesuvius in 1906 with two miraculous rites that stopped the terrible disasters that compete for the city.

Naples holds many legendary stories and mysteries that fascinate lovers of the esoteric to which it is difficult to give logical explanations. Scientists from all over the world have always found bread for their teeth in the eclectic minds that populated Naples in the historical centuries of the second millennium.

The sun seems to be in a hurry to set today and hides mischievously behind a small pile of gray clouds.

They’re the only ones in the sky right now and they’re right in front of the sunset. But, unwittingly, they let pass, clearly defined, the wonderful sunlight as to communicate that the light always stands out even in the shadows.

After witnessing this enchanting spectacle and now to go back. To shorten the journey to the crossroads of Neapolitan public transport or Piazza Garibaldi I take a shortcut in one of the most difficult districts of Naples the notorious district Health in the neighborhood Stella.

It's a problematic and degraded area but guardian of countless areas of historical and cultural interest. But coffee in photo looks like an isolated point of light in the dark.

Passing by in a few minutes, from the high areas of the city, you reach a still bright square that today is surrounded by a sky that looks perfectly colored by the crayons of a talented child.

The #iamalivechallenge 228 for me was one of the most interesting I have ever done. For me it is important to share the not easy reality of a city that travels between decadence and the desire for redemption.

A city wounded by having lost the role of European capital of past centuries and the desire for rebirth that hides the souls of the Neapolitans. Today I am #alive and optimistic that, sooner or later, the future will reserve to my city the glory it deserves.
