A bitter coffee

In a city there was an engaged couple, they had been dating for several months, at the beginning they had a nice relationship, but suddenly they began to have many problems as a couple, they were not having a good time, the economic situation was affecting them, they had communication problems, there were many secrets between them, they spent long hours of discussions and they were losing the love that one day they had for each other. They reached the point where they decided to end their relationship and each one was going to go their own way to look for a better future, but the worst thing is that they did not end on good terms. Carlos stayed in his hometown looking for a job, while Carla moved and he didn't know where to go.

Every night Carlos would go to a coffee shop where he liked to have dinner and share with his ex the best cups of coffee they sold in the whole city, a unique coffee, with lots of foam and a magical touch that made it special. Many of his friends worried about Carlos, as they realized that he was lonely, he was no longer the same cheerful boy. When he went to the cafeteria he would sit at the last table, far from the other people, nobody knew why he did that, he would stay until the place closed and then he would go home, without saying a word.

One of the owners decided to offer him a job as a barista, since they knew of his experience and knowledge, he and his old girlfriend had taken barista courses and managed to get their certification, so they offered him a good pay, a good shift, and also to be able to choose to have some benefits in the cafeteria. This young man accepted immediately, as he needed the money.

Several weeks of hard work passed, he worked double shifts, he had to make and serve many cups of coffee a day, little by little he was gaining the trust of the customers and the work team. He made friends in the cafeteria and at the end of each week they always met with their colleagues to drink a few cups of coffee, some sweets as a reward for their work, they liked to tell anecdotes of their trips, of their partners until each one retired. However, Carlos did not like to talk much about that subject.

Over time Carlos had become another man with money, a lot of fame in the cafeteria and even decided to take a trip to another city to take a course to improve his wand techniques, as he needed to learn new things, and thus take advantage of visiting his family. Something he did every year was already a tradition.

One day a very pretty girl came into the cafeteria, white, with blonde hair and beautiful eyes and asked for Carlos, no one knew who he was and no one wanted to answer. The girl insisted again and the only thing she said —Carlos works in this place—. Many were surprised and immediately contacted Carlos to tell him what had happened in the cafeteria.

After what happened with that girl he never came back, Carlos finished his barista courses and went back to his normal job, when he came back he told them that that was his ex, her name was Carla and he did not want to know anything about her, since they had not finished and they were not friends. Everyone understood at that moment why Carlos was so sad a few weeks ago and why he came alone to have his coffees.

On a normal working day the same girl arrived again, but this time she did not ask for anyone, she was accompanied by a new lover and they sat down to wait to be served. Carlos, being the barista, received the order from that table, so he prepared them a bitter coffee with the sole purpose that they would never return to that cafeteria and that they would think that they offered the worst coffees there. Once the coffees were ready he took them away, he could notice how Carla and her lover could not drink the coffee, each time they added more sugar to try to fix the coffee, but it was impossible. Immediately they left, leaving the bitter coffee on the table.

Many of his friends could not believe what Carlos did in that moment of anguish, he put at risk the fame of the coffee shop, he could have lost his job, however, it was a situation that no one knew about and everything went well.

Carlos understood that she was no longer the love of his life, and the right one would come at the right time and there was no need to harm, mistreat or ruin his ex, everyone had already chosen their own path. Now Carlos lives his life peacefully and thanks to the bitterness of a coffee, he was able to free himself from her.
