Bak Kut Teh 肉骨茶 (non Halal)

Bak Kut Teh is a romanised Chinese word, we refer to a local delight. Bak is meat, Kut is bones, Teh is tea. According to nonhofficial speculation, the recipe came from Klang. However, later Singapore also said it's their ancestor's recipe. How to prove it? I guess none.

Had an opportunity to head west and look for a friend, as he's leaving this country and going "back" to the Philippines. He's a long term expatriate there, so we refer him "back to Philippines". We decided to meetup again this week, probably one last time before he go back.

Klang is west from Kuala Lumpur, it's not exactly that far from my office. Sometimes, the traffic can really make you think it's far away. Can't help that due to the town located right there at our country's west port.

Initially, I did thought of the dish named it meat bone tea was due to the pot of soup is made of tea. However, after further study, there no definite recipe for eh food. Matter of fact, the name simply mean a person eat with meat, bone and drink tea. Therefore, despite only two of us, there so many cups are given. One thing good about this is, we can pour tea to the cups and let them cool down. Whilst drinking one cup, the other two cups are resting.

We ordered a bowl of this meat bone tea, it came with beancurd, pork shoulder, pork knuckle, and we also ordered to add an additional spare ribs. The crazy part was, the butter rice were properly cooked with fried scallions. The fried scallions really brings the rice itself to a whole new level of tastiness.

Well, we will have to get a dish of lettuce, so we can snap photo of that lettuce and show it to our diet coach. What? You think we will show her that bowl of porky bowl? 🤣

Thanks for commenting. I'm sure it's not easy to go independent. I wanted to be a full time blogger because I like to write about stuff, about food review, about my life and occasionally about crypto. But, I just don't have my audience, except what we have here locally in hive 🥺

I am currently in a way, self employed in a way. I haven't reported for office since 2017. But at that time when I started out, it was quite tough. Really really tough. I had to work a lot harder than I would when I had a job. But the perks is that, I get to decide when I have a holiday, how much I earn every month. So today, it is about 5 years. I am a YouTube content creator, I write on Hive, have part time jobs, investment that can beat an office job in terms of income.

You can try it as a side hustle first. =) Once you go independent, it's going to be scary but it's life changing. I've never been so happy in my life. It's really strange at first because I see my friends working the whole day while I am still sleeping. But sometimes, when I think of it, if I don't try it now, what if one day when I am 50 and no one wants to hire me? At least when I am younger now, I can still test out different things. haha.. that's just my own experience that I am sharing with you. Since I am not working for anyone.

I think the piece of pork bone in the last dish could be the bone, I also see the meat, and I guess the tea was ordered later, I don't want to think about drinking pork bone tea, it would be quite greasy ha ha ha , ha, ha, the diet would be lost, well it's already lost ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, what you say makes me laugh, that the traffic makes your workplace look very far, you should walk, that helps the diet, better not bother you :)

Hey buddy, thanks for stopping by. Yeah, the food is traditional food, just like some country consuming alligator which we doesn't. As mentioned in the paragraph, the term "tea" is not related to the pork soup, it was referring to the Chinese tea in those cups. Those are green tea 😁

And one last thing, I did walk alot, even my car parked far from my office due to the charges are expensive parking in the building. But walking to this place for a lunch seems impossible because it's 40km away. Driving is really not that far, but the traffic jam make it take longer to get there 🙂

I am now curious what Klang means in Malay. In Khmer "klang" means "strong," and there is a really well-known beer here named that.

The origin of the name Klang is from the languageh Mon-Khymer which is "Klong". Klong can be identified as a warehouse like what was stated by C.O. Blagden that said that Klang became an important Port that has lots of warehouses.

Holy! You have inspired me to dig into that and now Klang is never Klang again in the future. 😅
