I really appreciate you looking closer at this because these are questions I have had. That ausbit link is really cool, bookmarked! I like following the price of Hive & HBD fairly closely, but I would like to know exactly how it works.

I am reading through the comments, and recommend users read;

I also read @edicted 's responses to critics and I agree with him on this.
Also, there have been a few discussions about 'fixing' the market interface.
I have a few ideas about interfaces I would like to deploy, but need some help.

What I love about Bitcoin is that now we have choices. Money has been decentralized, and depending on your strategy you can pick one that works for you. Some users are great writers, and they will find that writing their stories on Hive becomes far more valuable than the reward payouts, and they disappear with their book and publish on amazon. That is the real value proposition, and for oldschool html writing webpage surfers like me, putting HTML into a datalayer that is effectively censorship resistant and permanent, makes this alone why HIVE is valuable to me.

Some are able to power up some HIVE and make some posts. They will start to see the value of this platform over time, but for others they don't want to lock up their funds for 13 weeks. Since 2016 we say "100% Power Up" which is a great long term strategy for those who believe in the chain. For some like myself, I realized a 60% HP and 40% liquid HIVE split would be better. HBD was also neat but we want the price of HIVE to go up, so holding HIVE is better than a dollar. After the fork and especially this past year since HF26, putting HBD into savings has been a new favorite strategy, one that I think is better for someone who wants access to their capital on a short term basis.

The risk is that you are assuming the price of HIVE will increase less than 20% in a year, and we see that HIVE can easily move from 0.40 to 0.80 and vice versa. You can hold 100 HBD in savings and if Hive looks like it might be going up, you have three days, versus 13 weeks. I know that different users want to do different activities, I didn't vote properly for the first 3 years of Steem at least, and now on Hive I am consciously curating out of habit.

Some users don't want to vote, so a lot of HP is meaningless for them. They might be better off holding mostly HBD, but that is up to each person to decide. Some users don't want to post content, they might as well just hold HBD too. However when HIVE reaches $5 in the near future, those who are all in on HBD might wish they had been paying more attention. I find this all fascinating and it has been a great experience for me to be part of.
