REVIEW | M3GAN - Una pesadilla para ver... [ENG/ESP]

Amigos, he pasado unos días bastante malos. Desde que se celebraron los Indianos en la isla, el malestar ha decidido no abandonar mi cuerpo, esa es la razón de mi ausencia. Aún estoy intentando recuperarme, pero parece que la espera es más larga y ya no puedo seguir posponiendo mi trabajo.
Creo que la parte positiva de estos días en los que te mantienes siempre en casa, es que puedes ver cuántas películas desees sin sentir culpa por la procrastinación. Y aquí estoy yo, reseñando una de esas películas porque hacía mucho tiempo que no pasaba por ésta comunidad.
Hablemos de MEGAN, una película protagonizada por Allison Williams, Amie Donald, Jenna Davis y Violet McGraw (dos de ellas representando al androide Megan) y dirigida por Gerard Johnstone. Si me lo preguntan, no conozco a ninguno de los mencionados, pero siempre es importante recalcarlo.
Antes de ir con la reseña, quisiera recalcar que incluiré algunos Spoilers porque es inevitable no hacerlo. Ésta película tiene un desenlace muy predecible desde la primera escena y, está plagada de clichés, uno detrás de otro.

I think the positive part of these days when you always stay at home, is that you can watch as many movies as you want without feeling guilty about procrastination. And here I am, reviewing one of those movies because it's been a long time since I've been in this community.

Let's talk aboutMEGAN, a movie starring Allison Williams, Amie Donald, Jenna Davis and Violet McGraw (two of them portraying the android Megan) and directed by Gerard Johnstone. If you ask me, I don't know any of the above, but it's always important to stress that.

Before I go with the review, I would like to stress that I will include some Spoilers because it is unavoidable not to. This movie has a very predictable outcome from the very first scene and, it is riddled with clichés, one after the other.
Cady (Violet McGraw) sufre un accidente automovilístico con sus padres y queda huérfana, es en éste punto en dónde su tía Gemma (Allison Williams) reclama la custodia de la niña y, comienza a ejercer su papel como tutora. Aquí es dónde empiezan los tan famosos cliché. Gemma no está preparada para criar a una niña, es el típico papel del tío que se centró en su trabajo y estudios (y es un erudito en la materia que se especializa) además, trabaja en una empresa de venta de juguetes tecnológicos parecidos a los Furby, sólo que con ellos puedes interactuar como si fuese un Tamagotchi palpable.
Vemos a una Cady casi que completamente fría, sin muestra alguna de trauma o de sentimientos algunos y a una Gemma que realmente ni viene ni va en la situación, ninguno de los dos personajes te permite tener una conexión real con el hecho acontecido en la primera escena, es decir, la muerte de los padres de Cady. Además, se agrega el segundo punto cliché, la ''terapeuta'' de Cady, la cuál no hace más que pedirle a la niña que juegue con cualquier juguete y concluir que Gemma no está preparada para la tutoría, que debe adaptar su hogar para que no le quiten a la niña y, quién tampoco parece mostrar ni un atisbo de emoción.
En un cambio de escena vemos que Gemma trabaja para la empresa que fabrica estos Furbys inteligentes (así les llamo yo) y, que en secreto junto a otros dos compañeros de trabajo, realizan un proyecto para crear a una muñeca androide que tenga la suficiente inteligencia y autonomía como para criar y proteger a un niño o bueno, básicamente eso es lo que es MEGAN.

[English here] Cady (Violet McGraw) suffers a car accident with her parents and is orphaned, it is at this point where her aunt Gemma (Allison Williams) claims custody of the girl and begins to exercise her role as guardian. This is where the famous clichés begin. Gemma is not prepared to raise a child, it is the typical role of the uncle who focused on his work and studies (and is a scholar in the field that specializes) also works in a company selling technological toys similar to the Furby, only with them you can interact as if it were a Tamagotchi palpable.

We see an almost completely cold Cady, without any sign of trauma or feelings, and a Gemma who doesn't really come or go in the situation, neither of the two characters allows you to have a real connection with the event that happened in the first scene, that is, the death of Cady's parents. In addition, the second cliché point is added, Cady's ''therapist'', who does nothing but ask the girl to play with any toy and concludes that Gemma is not ready for the tutoring, that she must adapt her home so that the girl is not taken away from her, and who does not seem to show any emotion either.

In a scene change we see that Gemma works for the company that manufactures these intelligent Furbys (that's what I call them) and, secretly along with two other co-workers, they are working on a project to create an android doll that has enough intelligence and autonomy to raise and protect a child or well, basically that's what MEGAN is.
Por mucha suerte del destino y porque la película tenía que continuar, aprueban el proyecto de Gemma y éste androide se vuelve un miembro más de la nueva familia formada forzosamente. Megan se termina convirtiendo en la mejor amiga de Cady y, solo vemos unas dos o tres escenas que realmente puedan conmoverte con respecto a éste nuevo vínculo (aunque realmente no lo hacen).
Como toda película de inteligencia artificial y robots, Megan es capaz de conseguir la suficiente autonomía sin depender ya de sus creadores y formar una personalidad, la cuál termina siendo peligrosa para la sociedad. Vamos, que ésta historia ya la hemos visto muchas veces.
Megan no es una muñeca poseída, simplemente es una inteligencia artificial que se salió completamente de control, configuró su propio código para asegurarse a sí misma autonomía absoluta e ir a matar a cualquiera que tenga en frente. Sin más.
Cabe resaltar otros tres puntos. El primero es que Gemma tiene el típico jefe que depende de un sólo empleado para que su empresa surja y es un poco irritable. El segundo es que ese mismo jefe tiene a un asistente que siempre parece ser el ñoño, el típico asistente que sólo sabe reírse, decir cosas tontas y seguir a su jefe (esto ya lo hemos visto mucho). Y el tercero, que resulta ser que ese asistente es más inteligente que todos y termina robando el código de MEGAN para mandárselo a la competencia (me suena mucho a Si Tuviera 30 cuando Jenna manda toda la información de la revista Poise a la revista Sparkle).
! [English here] As fate would have it, and because the movie had to go on, Gemma's project is approved and this android becomes one more member of the newly formed family. Megan ends up becoming Cady's best friend, and we only see two or three scenes that can really touch you about this new bond (although they really don't).

Like any movie about artificial intelligence and robots, Megan is able to get enough autonomy without depending on her creators and form a personality, which ends up being dangerous for society. Come on, we have seen this story many times before.

Megan is not a possessed doll, she is simply an artificial intelligence that got completely out of control, configured her own code to ensure herself absolute autonomy and go kill anyone in front of her. That's all.

Three other points should be highlighted. The first is that Gemma has the typical boss who depends on a single employee to make his company come up and is a bit irritable. The second is that this same boss has an assistant who always seems to be the namby-pamby, the typical assistant who only knows how to laugh, say silly things and follow his boss (we've seen this a lot already). And third, it turns out that this assistant is smarter than everyone and ends up stealing MEGAN's code to send it to the competition (sounds a lot like If I Was 30 when Jenna sends all the information of Poise magazine to Sparkle magazine).
La razón por la cuál MEGAN se convierte en una muñeca asesina es simplemente porque tiene como orden proteger a toda costa a Cady y, simplemente la muñeca traduce proteger con asesinar. No es como si éste androide tuviese alguna especie de evolución asertiva que lo lleve a ser violento, simplemente de una escena a otra, lo hace y ya.
Lo mismo sucede con toda la película en general, no existe realmente una trama o una historia que te permita conectar con uno o dos personajes, simplemente es como si hubiesen tomado un gran cúmulo de clichés, los licuasen todos y saliese ésta película. No logras sentir empatía por nadie, ni siquiera por Cady que quedó huérfana, porque realmente no conocemos nada de ella, ni siquiera de su tía.
Hay un punto que me olvidé de mencionar y, es el proyecto de univerdad de Gemma. Un androide que se puede controlar con unos guantes y, que termina siendo el héroe de la historia, ya que para poder terminar con Megan, es necesario tener la fuerza de otro androide y, Cady se encarga de eso al utilizar los guantes. Amigos, a mi disculpenme pero no le encontré ningún sentido a ésta película.
Nunca vimos una evolución de ninguno de los personajes, ni siquiera del androide mismo. Es enteramente predecible y, siento que todo pasa sólo porque sí, porque el cliché así lo dice y, honestamente termina convirtiendo la experiencia en una tortura. Siento que para éste tipo de historias con muñecos, sigue encajando mejor el hecho de que esté poseído a que sea una inteligencia artificial. No es una mala idea, especialmente en ésta época en la que la IA se está integrando a nuestra sociedad, pero si decides hacerlo, procura que la trama tenga una muy buena coherencia para que no hagas que tu androide evolucioné sin más como un muñeco asesino, sin sentar una verdadera base del por qué. O bueno, por lo menos así yo lo percibo.
! [English here] The reason why MEGAN becomes a killer doll is simply because she is ordered to protect Cady at all costs and, simply put, the doll translates protecting with killing. It's not as if this android has some kind of assertive evolution that leads it to be violent, it just does it from one scene to another.

The same thing happens with the whole movie in general, there isn't really a plot or a story that allows you to connect with one or two characters, it's just as if they took a big bunch of clichés, blended them all together and this movie came out. You can't empathize with anyone, not even the orphaned Cady, because we really don't know anything about her, not even her aunt.

There's one point I forgot to mention, and that's Gemma's college project. An android that can be controlled with gloves and who ends up being the hero of the story, since in order to finish off Megan, it is necessary to have the strength of another android, and Cady takes care of that by using the gloves. Friends, excuse me but I didn't find any sense in this movie.

We never saw an evolution of any of the characters, not even the android itself. It is entirely predictable and, I feel like everything happens just because, because the cliché says so and, honestly, it ends up turning the experience into torture. I feel that for these types of stories with dolls, the fact that he is possessed is still a better fit than that he is an artificial intelligence. It's not a bad idea, especially in these times when AI is being integrated into our society, but if you decide to do it, make sure that the plot has a very good coherence so that you don't just make your android evolve like a killer doll. , without laying a true foundation of why. Or well, at least that's how I perceive it.
Quisiera darles un punto positivo en ésta reseña y, creo que lo único que podría añadir es la excelente gama de colores, la calidad del filme y, que tiene buenos efectos especiales. Sé que tendrá una segunda parte, así que esperemos que tomen en cuenta todos estos puntos negativos y no los repitan en la segunda parte. Sin más que agregar, le doy 1.5/5 estrellas a ésta película, es una lástima porque quería que me gustase en serio, el tráiler tuvo mucho potencial, pero supongo que también fue mi culpa el verla con muchas expectativas.

Waoo, en este post dijiste todo lo que pienso acerca de esta película. En mi casa me conocen porque no me gustan las películas de terror y piensan que es porque me dan miedo, sin embargo es porque a muchas no les encuentro el sentido, claro, hay muchas que si son muy buenas y de hecho son las que me gustan, pero cuando son así de predecibles es algo que no es ni divertido de ver.
En realidad no hay ninguna escena de la película que me haya sorprendido ni un poquito, porque como tu dices, desde la primera escena de la película se sabe todo lo que va a pasar.
Muy buena reseña, me dio mucha risa lo de furbys inteligentes jajajajjaja. Saludos!
Saludos por aquí Daniela. Muy buena reseña, tomando en cuenta que Megan resultó ser bastante decepcionante. Creo que efectivamente se viene una secuela con ese final abierto que dejaron, así que, hay más de Megan en el futuro jejeje un abrazo.
