What fashions did you like when you were a child?
Fashion, that social phenomenon that characterizes and defines times, with it we are telling the world, at least outwardly, here I am, I'm not left behind, because whether we want or not with fashion, consciously or unconsciously we feel included, updated and even reflects the social status by another phenomenon that belong to the world of brands.

The fashion industry sets guidelines, breaks concepts and in many ways collects social sentiments that help to express them, for example, in the 60's fashion helped women to express the social changes that were occurring, such as the struggle for their civil, political, labor, sexual, family rights.

I was born in the 60's and I remember how my mother and my aunts were changing their way of dressing, from wide, flowing, mid-calf skirts to straight-waisted dresses and the use of pants more frequently.

As fashion includes accessories, I remember that my mother had a collection of wigs with different lengths and hairstyles, that when she dressed to go out, she would choose, I imagine, depending on her mood and where she was going, the one that best suited her.

Among the many trades my mother explored was selling clothes on credit and she specialized in girls' clothes, because having four girls, I guess she foresaw that whatever she did not sell, she would minimize any loss by dressing us. I remember her arriving on a trip with full suitcases and a special one for her girls, beautiful, fashionable and very flirty dresses.

But it was in the seventies when I began to enjoy the ups and downs of fashion: I am the daughter of the miniskirt, turtleneck sweaters, white boots and thick belts, I get a very clear image of the four of us dressed alike with an outfit like that and the skirt was plaid.

Wide boot pants also predominated and are making a comeback, as well as Jean dresses and pantyhose with arabesques, hahahaha.

When we were older, in the first years of adolescence, we followed the mandates of the designer Mary Quant, everything was mini skirts, the so-called hot shorts, I fondly remember that a cousin who was abroad sent me a Mary Quant makeup case as a gift.

They were like wax crayons, flashy and daring, I enjoyed them very much and one of my favorite makeups a high school teacher ironically baptized it as: the macaw, because I put vertical lines of different colors, although faint so they would not send me to wash my face, if attractive that attracted attention. Well, in many occasions we used fashion to call attention, to stand out from the group.

As for shoes I had my macho shoes, those masculine looking closed toe platform shoes, which at the same time were very feminine, the well known Swedish wooden shoes and in the sports branch the classic converse, I got to have some yellow ones that I loved, as well as some silver booties that I never took them off, I was fascinated by them.

When the “Vaseline” fashion arrived, yes the one from John Travolta's movie, at the end of the 70's, with the wide mid-calf skirts, sport shoes and a prominent waist, very 50's style, I became a fan of that fashion, and it is that fashion is somehow cyclical, details like fabrics, textures, colors, accessories change, but the concept is retaken.

The truth is that as the years went by I started to lose weight to this desire to follow fashion, because the dynamics of everyday life makes you look for what you find more comfortable, functional and above all that you discover your style, mine is completely eclectic, taking into account what I like, and I consider that it suits me.

¿Qué modas te gustaban cuando eras pequeño?

La moda, ese fenómeno social que caracteriza y define épocas, con ella vamos diciendo al mundo, por lo menos exteriormente, aquí estoy, no me quedo atrás, porque queramos o no con la moda, consciente o inconscientemente nos sentimos incluidos, actualizados y hasta refleja el status social por otro fenómeno que pertenecen al mundo de las marcas.

La industria de la moda marca pautas, rompe conceptos y de muchas maneras recoge sentires sociales que ayudan a expresarlos, por ejemplo, en los años 60 la moda ayudó a la mujer a expresar los cambios sociales que estaban ocurriendo, como la lucha por sus derechos civiles, políticos, laborales, sexuales, familiares.

Nací en la década de los 60 y recuerdo como mi mamá y a mis tías fueron cambiando su forma de vestir, de las faldas amplias, vaporosas y a media pierna a vestidos de talle recto y el uso del pantalón con mayor frecuencia.

Como la moda incluye accesorios, recuerdo que mi mamá tenía una colección de pelucas con diversos largos y peinados, que cuando se vestía para salir escogía, me imagino, que según su ánimo y él para donde se dirija, la que mejor le asentara.

Entre tantos oficios que mi mamá exploró estaba el vender ropa a crédito y se especializó en ropa de niñas, pues teniendo cuatro niñas, supongo que prevenía que aquello que no vendiera minimizaba cualquier perdida vistiéndonos a nosotras. La recuerdo llegar de viaje con las maletas llenas y una especial para sus niñas, vestidos preciosos, a la moda y muy coquetos.

Pero es en la década de los setenta cuando comienzo a disfrutar de los vaivenes de la moda: soy hija de la minifalda, los suéteres cuello tortuga, las botas blancas y los cinturones gruesos, me llega una imagen muy clara de las cuatro vestidas igualitas con un atuendo así y la falda era de cuadros escoceses.

También predominaban los pantalones bota ancha que están regresando, al igual que los vestidos de Jean y las medias pantis con arabescos, jajajaja.

Ya más grandes, en los primeros años de la adolescencia, seguíamos los mandatos de la diseñadora Mary Quant, todo era minifaldas, los llamados shorts calientes, recuerdo con cariño que una prima que estaba en el exterior me envió de regalo un estuche de maquillaje Mary Quant.

Eran como creyones de cera, llamativos y atrevidos, los disfrute muchísimo y uno de mis maquillajes preferidos una profesora del liceo lo bautizó irónicamente como: la guacamaya, porque me ponía líneas verticales de diversos colores, que aunque tenues para que no me mandaran a lavar la cara, si atractivos que llamaban la atención. Bueno, en muchas ocasiones utilizamos la moda para llamar la atención, sobresalir del grupo.

En cuanto a zapatos tuve mis machitos, aquellos zapatos cerrados de aspecto masculino de plataforma, que al mismo tiempo resultaban muy femeninos, los conocidos suecos de madera y en la rama deportiva los convers clásicos, llegué a tener unos amarillos que me encantaban, así como unos botines plateados que no me los quitaba, me fascinaban.

Cuando llegó la moda “Vaselina”, sí la de la película de John Travolta, a finales de los 70, con las faldas amplias a media pierna, zapatos deportivos y una cintura destacada, muy al estilo de los 50, me volví fan de esa moda y es que la moda de alguna manera es cíclica, cambian los detalles como telas, texturas, colores, accesorios, pero el concepto se retoma.

Lo cierto es que con el paso de los años le fui quitando peso a ese querer seguir la moda, pues la dinámica del día a día te hace buscar lo que te resulta más cómodo, funcional y sobre todo que descubres tu estilo, el mío es completamente ecléctico, tomando en cuenta lo que me gusta y considero que me queda bien.
