Anti-inflammatory effect of chamomile
For some months now I have been opting to use natural medicines, improving my diet, among other things for the benefit of my health.
Recently I felt abdominal pain, slight, and I remembered that I had chamomile stored, and that my grandparents when they had abdominal discomfort prepared it and took it. I also remember drinking it, so I said "I will prepare myself a chamomile tea ", and as if by magic, after a few minutes I felt better.
This made me think about what was the action that chamomile had chemically in our organism. I am a scientist, and when I studied I was told about how Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory drugs (as Diclofenac, ibuprofen, among others are called) are able to reduce pain and inflammation, by acting on a specific metabolic pathway, but they taught me nothing about plants, which have been used for thousands of years.
Such is the case of chamomile, so I spent a few minutes to read about it, and discovered that the possibility of reducing inflammation and relieving pain is due to the presence of a component called "Camazulene", which has an important anti-inflammatory and spasmolytic action, leading to the decrease of pain that this generates.
To understand this we must be clear about the following, in the hollow viscera (intestine, stomach, colon) pain is generated when there is expansion of these, and this is what activates the pain receptors, chamomile, or rather, a component it has, is able to prevent/decrease this expansion and therefore the pain decreases.
That is why when we have abdominal pain of intestinal origin, it is possible to relieve it most of the time with the intake of chamomile tea. I must emphasize that this is not a medical advice, which will be of total relief in all types of abdominal pain, since problems that could only be relieved with surgery, as an appenditis for example, are not going to improve with a tea.
