I was at home yesterday evening, cooking dinner for the family, when my phone rang. I said the usual line I murmur whenever my phone rang—who knows me?😂. I checked my phone and boom! It was @starstrings01 calling me. I was marveled that someone of such a great personality would call my number.

I picked up the call and he made the purpose of his call known —''Hive hangout is currently going on on discord and I thought I should remind you'' He said. 'Oh sh#t! How did I forget again?, I’m not even in my late 20’s yet, so how am I this forgetful?' I thought. I thanked him for the reminder, and bade him bye. Off to discord!!! Before I miss any more moment in the community hangout

Okayyy, wait, please read that again, in a less serious manner this time😂😂. Don’t mind me, I can be very dramatic at times 😩🤲

So, I got to discord and joined the hangout. @Olujay was the one moderating for the night—Interesting!!! And the amazing people — @princessbusayo , @sekani , @bobbydones , @dlmmqb , @adaezeinchrist , also graced the hangout with their presence.

I went straight to the chat box as I was curious about the topic for the night and just at the perfect time, it was sent in again by @olujay.

The topic goes thus:

Words vs Melodies: Choosing Between Two Worlds

In our world, you find people wanting to learn multiple languages or multiple instruments.

Would you rather be able to speak every language or be able to play every musical instrument? Why?

Oh wow! What an interesting topic. I listened to the insightful point of views of other members that spoke and I was also invited to go on stage to say one or two things on the topic, and choose one of the options, but I was so shyyyyyy at first (happens everytime).

untitled.gif

I did go on stage later though (who would miss an opportunity to contribute to such an interesting topic), after battling the spirit of shyness in me🌝🌝.

Actually, I am writing this post to say about the topic, the things I didn’t remember to share on the spot(to share my two cents, basically)

To start with, music is a very powerful language itself. Many call it a universal language, and this line, is unarguably very profound. Music has a magical effect on people, and honestly, being able to play every instrument sounds so enticing and nice too.

but……….

I am definitely going for the second option—speaking every language. That’s really huge!…Honestly, that is like having a super power or possessing a priceless treasure. Additionally, it’s a total flex!!!. You visit any new place and it immediately feels like home. It’s like understanding the universe itself. This could even bail you out of danger sometimes. Okay, imagine this practical scenario;

You find yourself in a new land and obviously, they would refer to you as a stranger. Out of the fear of who you might be or what you might possess, if they proceed to harm you, no musical instrument would save you from the situation (unless, they are fascinated by how it looks, and that’s not always a good thing). They would not even wait for you to bring your instrument out, let alone play it to their hearing (unless they are extremely patient). But if they hear ‘Don’t hurt me, I’m harmless!’ In their own distinct language, what do you think would happen?🌝

Or let’s look at it from the point of view of an auditory or speech impaired Individual. Imagine how glad they would feel when someone communicates to them using the sign language— Finally! Someone who understands🥹. They too, want to hear and be heard, in the language they have known all their lives. Understanding their language can make them feel so happy in an incomprehensible manner.

I wish to travel the world someday, and meet with different people and tribes. Imagine being able to communicate with them, one will never feel lost or unsafe. It will always be like you are home, away from home. Basically, knowing every language will allow you to fit in any place or gathering.

Also, knowing every language would have saved great tutors the time and energy to translate their teachings to English language, for people like me to understand well. Imagine we knew their languages, they would not need to stress so much, before everyone can learn.

One of the juicy rewards of speaking every language would be ‘connecting to all kinds of music’. Truth be told ,there are some music that do not need translation before you can feel it’s soothing effect deep in your bones. Now imagine if you can actually understand the entirely lyrics—Oh my my!🥹. But there are some music that you just need to understand the entirety of them. You’ll be surprised at how much meaning and feeling a lyrics can give to a song.

I can go on and on, listing why I would prefer to speak every language than play every instrument. But I would love to know what you think about the topic as well.

Would you rather be able to speak every language or be able to play every musical instrument?

Most importantly, Why?

I would really love to hear from you too.

Wait, Understanding every language should include that of animals as well, right?😂. Finally, I’d be able to beg all these rats disturbing my peace to pack out peacefully, in order to avoid bloodshed😂💔.

Okay, I think I should stop here😂

Thanks for reading❤️

Oh wow! Your reason of choice is quite surprising. You must be a really daring person, and that's totally cool😎☺️🙌

Thanks for stopping by☺️🤍

O.O i don't think it has to be related to daring. It just matters what you value more lol. I assumed speaking every language is also understanding it so I mean it's more practical for me to know every language. I can watch my japanese and korean shows without any subtitles. I love musci but listening not playing :P

You know the 'It's harder to learn' actually sounds like you love challenges, which is cool btw. But I get now that's it's about how important it is, to you😊

This is a very interesting topic, but I particularly love your perspective on your opinions and how you justify them.

The fact that one can basically "speak the language of the universe" gives one the edge to thrive anywhere they find themselves or go (for the adventurers) by simply being able to communicate efficiently in the language that is being spoken there. One can never be stranded in any way as long as they play their cards right.

I love your analogy with the musical instrument. Music, as a general concept to which people can relate, carries more weight when the lyrics and composition are truly understood, such as a love song in Yoruba or in French.

However, I think speaking to animals is the coolest, and I also think it applies here. I believe animals communicate with each other somehow. We'd be surprised at what they believe and perceive.

Thank you for gracing us with your presence, Ardor. We'll see you next week too.

Thank you very much Olujay, I always appreciate your comments☺️

Yeah, to speak every language is to understand the universe. Thanks for pointing out that you have to play your cards right in order to never get stranded in a place. Truly, wisdom is still needed, even if you have the gift.

I was even thinking about it a particular day, on my own. There are some songs we just listen to, just because of how pleasing it sounds or how soothing it feels, but when you look beyond than the Melodies and harmonies and you actually dive deeper to understanding the song itself, you’ll be amazed that some songs will have more meaning, and some, less. Some songs might not necessarily have a sweet melody but every line of the lyrics actually hold great meaning.

The fact that speaking with animals is applicable here is making me visualize many things😂💃. And yes! It’s the coolest, I couldn’t agree more. Honestly, I think about it sometimes, that there has to be a way these animals communicate with themselves, and I think that’s actually a thing. To hear them will be totally cool fr. Personally, I would love to know what they think of humanity, and also see the way they analyze things.

Thank you for having me, I had a great time and I am really looking forward to showing up next week as well.

You would then become the Nigerian Dr. Do Little. He is a fictional chatacter that can hear and talk to animals.

In my opinion, I don't think animals would have really good thoughts about humanity. But we really cannot know unless we actually hear them.

See you next week, Ardor.

Seeing all the reasons you wrote made me forget the reason why I chose instruments over language but the reason for your choice has opened my eyes and made me realize the advantages of knowing multiple languages over instruments.

Ummm, nice. Welcome to team language 😂😌, feels good to win you over.

Actually though, I would have loved to see things from another point of view. Generally though, I think there are still more advantages associated with speaking different languages than playing every musical instrument.

You visit any new place and it immediately feels like home

Actually, not feeling at home anywhere is a superpower because then you feel at home everywhere :-D That's how I feel at least.

Music language writing and community are my 4 main passions, and music and language actually function exactly the same. You can get your point across with just a few words or a few notes if you are creative, and the point is reaching the other person, not using it perfectly.

I don't think I could choose one or the other haha

Which 3 languages would you choose to learn first?

I'm not sure I understand this fully. I would really love an explanation please 🥹🤲

Hmm, I get your point and I really understand. Definitely, music is a fantastic way to communicate, but I still think the fastest way to communicate is through words though.

I don't think I could choose one or the other haha

You want to sit on a fence, nooooo😂😂😂😂. You have to choose🌝😌

Which 3 languages would you choose to learn first?

Hard to decide, but then I would learn Italian, Korean, and my language—Yoruba (I know my language well, but I wish to know it deeper)

The most exciting part 😂. This would foster my desire to get an exotic pet one day. Imagine having a lion as a pet and you guys can gist, I'll scare my friends witless. I might as well become the Doctor Dolittle of our time because I'm sure most people would avoid visiting me 😂😂 and all the animals will come regularly for visits.

This is a very cool one Pearl 🤗, I absolutely enjoyed reading ❤
