NEWBIES INITIATIVE TASK 6: Hive efficiency tools

Just like the previous times, last meeting at the newbies initiative hangout proved to be amazing and definetly impactful. Our tutor for this session was @olujay and he was kind enough to tell and show us things he didn't get to even know as a newbie, but until he got deeper in the community. I must confess that this is a great priviledge and I am still excited and grateful to be a part of this journey.

He taught about different efficient tools on hive, but started with the hivebuzz. I am sure almost everyone is familiar with this account because it is that account that informs us about what we just achieved on our account, new badges we’ve attained, different hive milestones, etc. It is not just there to inform us about our progress though, it does a lot more than that—tells us about our hp, author rewards, curation rewards, and so on. It has its own webpage(hivebuzz.me), and here, we can check certain statistics about any hive account.

This is how my account looks like on hivebuzz.me , it shows necessary information about my account; number of posts published, number of comments I have made,rewards, marine character, etc.

We dived deeper into hive stats as well, and this gives a more detailed information about our activities financially; amount of HP, curation rewards, author rewards, how much HP you have incoming, etc. Hive stats picks up data from days or months before, so it may take a minute to load fully.

It is very important for us to know how our hive account is doing in order to know what to improve on, concerning our accounts. It also helps us to achieve better results on our account and set goals and targets for our accounts.

My marine character is the ‘red fish’ and there are in total, five marine characters. The red fish is the lowest in the chain, followed by the minnow, the dolphin, orca, and then the whale which is at the top of the chain. Basically, they reflect the amount of Hive Power your account holds.

The six numbers below my marine character indicates that I am still growing on hive.

This is what my account looks like on hivestats.

The effective HP on my account is 415.95HP. Effective HP is gotten when you subtract and add the delegations coming in and out. It is basically how much actually you get to use your stake to earn curation rewards.

Author rewards for the past 7 days is 5.01HP/1.88HBD and the curation rewards is 0.09HP. Curation rewards are rewards earn for delivering votes or by upvoting while author rewards are rewards earned from making posts. My author and curation rewards for the last 7days reflects that I haven’t been very active on hive and I will definitely do better this week.

FOLLOWING LAZY-PANDA’S CURATION TRAIL

To follow the lazy-panda’s curation trail, I logged in on hive.vote with my username and private key, which linked to hivesigner.

Out of the available options, I clicked on the ‘curation trail’ because that was what I was there for.

I then set my upvote mana threshold to 90%. This means that upvoting trail spa uses when my upvote mana is lower than the upvote mana threshold I had set. This was done to protect my upvote mana to not reduce too much and so I will be able to engage on other contents.

I looked up lazy-panda in the search box and when it brought out the trail, I followed it.

Lastly, I updated my setting for the trail by putting my voting weight at 10% and wait time to be 1 minute. I set my voting weight to 10% because I am aware that voting mana will drop drastically if I set it too high and it might take a while to bring it back up.

SETTING UP AN NOTIFICATION BOT, F.R.I.D.A.Y.

I got the link from @starstrings01 and joined the channel.

I was directed to the ‘getting-started’ section which showed the necessary information I needed to register my account.

I was redirected to the ‘help’ section where I registered my account by typing in the command link - /register username

So, with these few steps, I was able to register my hive account under F.R.I.D.A.Y.

If you are wondering the importance of this bot, it helps notify you on the happenings or activities on your account faster.
