Collection Series: Hateen

Hello friends, how are you?

We are in another edition of my own collection of national bands that I still like and listen to today. If you're like me, listen to good music in the car, in the shower or even when cleaning the house. I believe you will like my recommendation today.

One way to organize myself and have the possibility of listening to my favorite songs whenever I want here on Leo will be through these articles that will serve as a kind of “music library”.

I'm enjoying bringing a little bit of each story of Brazilian music and I have a lot of fun creating my playlists on INLEO. Speaking of which, I will soon make a new, updated tutorial for anyone who wants to create their own playlist as the old way no longer works, which is with the embedded code.

Now without further ado, let’s get to know a little more about Hateen.

Hateen: How It All Started

The group led by Rodrigo Koala, Japinha and Cesinha Santisteban, emerged in 1994, in the East Zone of São Paulo. The 90s were undoubtedly a time when great national bands were revealed. Interestingly, of the 7 albums that Hateen currently has, the band's first four albums were recorded only with English lyrics.

In 1996, the first CD entitled Hydrophobia was released, with featured tracks such as “You’ve Gone Too Far”, “Circus” and “Free Violence”. One cool and interesting thing was that Japinha, the drummer, was an English teacher at the time and helped Koala correct some words that were wrong.

It was only after 10 long years, more precisely in 2006, that the band began to include songs with lyrics in Portuguese. The album at the time was Procedimendos de Emergência. And it was precisely at that time that I started listening to Hateen. I confess that I had no idea that they only sang in English.

What most motivated Hateen to start playing songs in Portuguese was because of the strong influence of the compositions that Koala made for the band CPM 22. This is another band that I really like and that was actually the first band that I started with the series Coletâneas.

The song "1997" dominated radio stations across the country and through it many people like me began to follow the band. With strong lyrics and a pop-rock feel, Hateen began to follow the path to success in the country.
