THE IMPACT OF FUNAAB ROAD ON THE MENTAL HEALTH OF STUDENTS
The institution was established on 1 January 1988 by the Federal Government of Nigeria, and started from the old campus of Abeokuta Grammar School, Isale-Igbein, before moving to the current location in Alabata, Abeokuta.
The university has 179 academic programmes made up of 44 undergraduate programmes, and 135 graduate programmes.
A federal university of agriculture Abeokuta FUNAAB has a total of ten college and a population of over twenty thousand students with an hostel space of about two thousand bed spaces which leaves about twenty thousand students off campus
There are two main off campus locations where students base which are gate and camp now the distance from camp to the school gate is about ten kilometres and from schools gate to main campus is another two and half kilometres which is brings a total of twelve and half kilometres
The hostels around gate ranges from $128 to $571 which is pretty much for a student coming from an average Nigerian family so many students are left with the option of staying at camp where they can get houses for as low as $42 but there is a terrible constrain in the road network and availablity of transport from camp to school because of the population of students living in the area.
Before the present hike in the price of fuel the fair on transportation from camp to school was one hundred and fifty naira (#150) for shuttle buses and cabs and one hundred naira for the mancort buses .
THE ROAD
The Alabata community road which happens to be the only linking road to the federal university of agriculture Abeokuta FUNAAB has over time degenerated due to the constant usage by students, residents and heavy duty commercial vehicles who ply the route to carry granite, logs from forest and even tankers that supply gas stations along that area; this has a vast effect on students cause they have to wait in long queues for buses based on the time taken to get to school and back to camp
MENTAL HEALTH
Mental health refers to a person's state of mind and this is responsible for a person's actions, behaviour towards others and attitude., Mental health can be influenced by many different things sush as a person's background, culture, environment, economy just to mention but a few.
Mental health of students can be affected by the learning conditions, learning environment and many other things but the main focus of this write up is on the road
The poor condition of the road has made many students unwilling to go for classes because of the stress associated with getting to school from the hike in transport to long queues and then the road which makes many to we wared out by the time they get to school some of them are tired and they need sometime to regroup which is almost impossible because as soon as they get to school that have to be in class for accademic activities and learning.
The implementation is that most times alot of students would rather stay at home instead of coming to school and by so doing they miss lectures and during examination they are not able to perform very well
I believe that meantal health is a very important topic that should be looked into because a person's actions are a true reflection of their state of mind
Pay attention to your mental health and you will be amazed at what you can do.

Imagine having a stressful day in school and still take this bad road back to your hostel. They only try to patch the road and it's has never been patched well, just rough and poor.
Yeah the stress is very real and the patching is always done by school management but then those heavy vehicles keep spoiling the road and when the student union government tried to confront them they use charms so nobody is even thinking about them but more disappointing is the fact that the commissioner of transportation in Ogun state says he doesn't know the road that leads to funaab
