I've deleted the Facebook App from my phone.

It unfolded right in front of me today

this awareness

this awareness of just how much time and energy I still waste

on a platform I really don't love anymore.

It has its uses,

I use it for a few very specific things

and to have access to those things,

those groups,

those people,

I am grateful.

But most of it?

Most of it I no longer need or want.

I don't need to see updates from people who I was friends with 10 years ago

or people I met once 6 months ago and expect to never see again.

I don't need to be targetted with ads for charities;

I give to them when I what,

when I'm ready.

I was wasting so much time scrolling

looking for things that were truly interesting,

engaging, enriching for me.

Instead, I would find myself, again and again

consuming news that is meaningless to me.

I rarely want to write a post and share it there.

I rarely want to write a story or teach a lesson or even ask a question to learn something new there,

so what am I doing there?

Wasting time. That's what I've been doing,

wasting time, living out an old habit,

when I could be on Hive

sharing my thoughts,

sharing my feelings,

teaching cool things,

learning cool things,

and playing with formats that are strange,

unusual,

unfamiliar,

without feeling fear of being judged.

I've deleted the Facebook App from my phone

with a clear intention to be here more often,

to engage with the people I admire, adore and appreciate more often,

to speak my mind and my heart more often,

and see how much I can grow through spending more time in this space

and less time on that one.

That's me, and a very big tree that I was totally admiring, like the goddess of a creature it is. The photo was taken by my love, @new.things, when we were out and about, exploring the world, well away from this screen.

It's worth the sacrifice when you let go of things that are seemingly irrelevant. It's way better when we prioritize the needful

So many ppl are leaving FP.
.ark Zuccerberg admitted on the Joe Eogan Show, that content is manipulated according to instructions from the FBI

Also that the Fact Checkers are Vaccine Company Agents.

God knows what else is going on with FB abuse algorithm.

Stay safe 🙏 untitled.gif

I had quit Facebook some time ago, but had to re-enter the application, to promote Splinterlands. I only use it for that now.

Sounds wise. I think the trick with any platform is to see it as a resource we can use, instead of being sucked into being used by it.

It's a good decision.. You stick to what add values to you.

I have quit it several times now and can relate to much of what you remark upon!

My hacky solution with it has been to either use Messenger Lite which is a very un-bloated version of their messenger application.

Or if I absolutely have to use the site... I do it through either their https://mbasic.facebook.com site or their mobile site https://m.facebook.com

The former of the two sites always gives access to sending and receiving messages on a mobile browser and is designed to work well over very limited internet connectivity.

If only all the folks I know would get on Hive... I would not have to resort to such measures but they do help bridge the gap some.

Cheers!

I love that you shared this detail. It may help someone else make a similar decision. I already needed to go into Facebook this morning to contact someone in a running group but I made myself ignore the urge to reinstall the app and logged in the slow way through a browser. The awkwardness of it is useful in making me slow down and think about why I'm getting on there.

I still kept the Messenger App. I use it to text people all the freakin' time but I'm okay with that because I'm not losing time; I'm connecting with people who I love. And unlike so many people I don't think Zuckerberg is the devil or that FB is evil. That platform has brought so much good into my life.

But I've changed. So it's time to let my online presence change too.

That tree is incredible, Caroline.... all twisted and turned... quite beautiful really... it's like it has all this strength and still it just flows 💗 I think your decision is a very wise one. I still have Facebook on my phone but I look at it maybe once a week for 5 minutes to catch up on family news. Hive is far more engaging and connective for me. I used to waste hours a day on facebook and came to the same conclusions as you have done... and like I said on your previous post... for me ... I have even reassessed my time on Hive to ensure that I am still walking away each week feeling fulfilled and experiencing joy... and it boils down to spending a good portion of my Hive time writing short story fiction and poetry and to spending time with and on the people I love here ♥️♥️♥️ ... so weekends are for pure reading and writing pleasure and joy... weekdays I focus a bit more on supporting new writers, exploring new content, and helping to promote Dreemport - things I also absolutely love - but it's about setting aside time for different things so that I remain in balance. I am sure I will tweak things as time goes by until I find what works best for me... and I hope that you are able to find your joy again on Hive too. Best thing about this post? That you are going to be here more often !LUV !ALIVE

And the tree was so incredible. It was impossible to capture it all. There were three, actually; all massive, all gorgeous. I love that the playground was built around it. 🌳🧗

Congratulations, first step for a more quality spent time! It always was toxic this platform, but now it is just full of ads!

I don't use it anymore for anything other than marketing, I just don't have the time or the inclination and nobody has missed me - it's a good choice you've made. Hive is far more fun and you can actually gain knowledge, wisdom and advice from here whereas the other place is basically just a glorified photo album of people you don't really know much about when you boil it down.

This is unfortunately not something that the world will come to realise any time soon, but your life will be so much better without it.

That tree is freaking magnificent! I'd love to have a tree like that in my garden one day.

Looking at the amount of wood in the playground, my first thoughts were "That looks like an Aussie playground", then I saw your tag at the bottom :D

Congrats on deleting the FB app, hope you remember to also de-activate your account, although I have no idea what that does....

I won't be doing that any time soon. I still have many, many important connections through that platform and know where to go to get information I need on a wide range of community events. What has changed in the amount of time I want to spend on there and the way I'm willing to use it and be used by it. I'm happy with my current choice and know that my use of the platform will continue to change over time, like it has already and will continue to do with all platforms.

Fair enough, I decided some years ago to just give it up cold turkey. Using Whatsapp now, which ironically is also owned by Meta....
