Today I wanted to chat about unit bias and how we have to keep on going even when we achieve a short term goal!

Unit Bias Isn't A Pause

Unit bias is a fun thing! I know that Edicted talks about it a lot and I wanted to ramble a little bit on it today, with one of the unit bias scenarios that I was able to achieve.

One of the things that I find interesting is that we are often subject to simple unit bias and many times in a lot of different ways. For me, one of the things I love to do is go to the grocery store or other places and the total of the bill ends up being something like 17.76 for the American Revolution, or just 9.00 even and other random interesting numbers. 11.11 was a fun one the other day that happened to me and I found that one interesting.

Number bias also occurs with cryptocurrency for sure, such as the strive for many people to hit a certain valuation of their portfolio such as a million dollars, or having 100 Ethereum, 1 bitcoin and others.

I recently was able to achieve one of my unit bias goals and it was something I've been working towards for a bit but when I achieved it, it felt a little less invigorating than I thought it would and I thought that was quite interesting lol. I was expecting to jump around and be excited to have it occur but I was a little ambivalent to the situation. I know that the unit bias I was experiencing didn't have that much impact on a lot of things but I was determined to achieve it. Once achieved, I was already looking at the next one to get to so that I can keep on going.

I'm wondering if the psychology of the world we live in today has some hand in the cause of that within me. I guess it's really not a bad thing to always be striving for more when you're an average citizen but I think it might get problematic when you're someone who has more money than you know what you could ever do with. Thankfully I'm not like that, and I'm just a lowly worker citizen like so many other people in the world lol. The unit bias was fun for a few minutes to hit though, I certainly felt accomplished! I know that there are lots of other goals in the grand scheme of things and I think of this one as just a fork in the road. I was traveling down the direction that I was aiming towards until I hit the fork, with the direction going either way but knowing I would be at a cross roads with which I needed to move.

The good thing about me these days though is that I have goals and aspirations. In the past I was very "seat of my pants" in a lot of things in life where I wouldn't really have many aspirations or goals to try and achieve. I know this is helpful in a lot of ways because it allows you to be nimble in a lot of situations but it's also one that can be challenging, where we aren't setting the proper goals for ourselves and our futures. Thankfully this wasn't a permanent state of mind for me, and my wife has done an excellent job in getting me to become more of a goal and direction oriented person because it is often better financially.

With the goals when it comes to my digital assets, those are ones that I relatively recently have started to develop so that I can have a roadmap for the future. I know that there are many twists and turns to it all but in the long run it's much better for our portfolios if we have goals in mind, directions to head, and unit bias states to achieve. Achieving them is just one step in the grand walking path that we have in life and it felt good to take that step on the path, and to keep on going in stride instead of stopping or going backwards. Those are the best times for sure! The best thing is to not lose sight of the road ahead I think.
