DIY Holiday Ornaments
Hi fellow DIYers,
Today I'm here with some of the holiday creations that I've been experimenting with!
DIY Holiday Ornaments
One of the things that's been pretty cool is that I saved the Christmas tree from last year. A few weeks ago, I figured it was dry enough now to start to make stuff with it! I didn't take a pic of it before I started to cut it up sadly but I got a really significant amount of cool wood slices out of it!
One of the things that I don't love about it but you gotta roll with what you got, is that the saw I was using left some colors on the wood. Made it a bit of a pain to get rid of it lol
I got the interest from Pinterest, after some web searches of what I could possibly do. Thankfully I didn't have to search for long once you get the words right. "Wood slice crafts" is the better way to figure that part out lol.
The stump of the tree was going to be a different project for me but it proved to be a lot more difficult to get the stump cored out. I tried to do it with a drill and drill bit, did it for a while but it didn't end up working. I will give this another try with a Christmas tree next year, but I have an idea of making a kind of wooden vase out of it. Hollowing it out is the tricky part, since I don't want to go all the way through lol
These were the ones that were successful though! I was able to use my wood burning tool and make these little designs here!
I used a pencil to draw on them before I actually burned them. It was actually pretty fun and helpful to do these small ones first, I made a larger project that will come in a future post! The drawings on here was crucial to have. It's a little tricky to use the wood burning tool if you're doing it freehand and even in what I was doing, I learned good ways to adjust my technique. I will definitely be doing some more small projects with this fun tool! I had my eye on it for a while and finally got to use it.
We just need to paint these now and give them a little color outside of just the wood and burn marks. That'll be a project for the little man!
