Changing HBD Strategies
Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to post a little bit about adjusting my recent strategy for HBD.
Changing HBD Strategies
With the ever fluctuating price of things like Hive and HBD, with the crypto markets overall, I'm trying to do what I can to best poise myself for different scenarios by stacking away things like HBD apart from my Hive Power that I'm constantly adding to. I've been switching things up for a little bit to get different strategies tried out and this one seems okay, so I figured I'd write a little bit about it!
The price action of Hive going down from some considerable highs has an interesting effect on various aspects of our habits, for me thankfully it doesn't affect my writing habits or my engagement, those are pretty consistent across the different timeframe so that's good. What has affected my habits though, is the increase or decrease in Hive price and how I change some things up to factor that stuff in!
We all like when Hive prices are good, they are high and people are feeling great. Things are green but for me, that's an opportunity to do more than just enjoy the increased rewards that occur during that stuff. That is a time when I actually look to save more HBD than I do when the price of Hive is lower. When the price of Hive is higher, nearing 1$ (which we haven't seen in a while, sadly but hopefully sometime again soon!) or over it, I actually don't really sell my HBD and buy Hive, I keep the HBD for the most part and stock it away in my HBD savings account. This post isn't really about that situation though, it's more about the situation that we're in presently.
With the price of Hive lower on the other hand, which we are experiencing these past few months, what I've been trying to do the last 2 months or so is spend most of my time in the early parts of the month buying Hive with my HBD rewards from posts and comment rewards. Right now you get more Hive per HBD you spend which is a big attraction for me right now, since I'm trying to maximize my Hive Power stake in these bearish markets. This has been great because I've been able to power up 100+ Hive a month when it comes to PUD but still also be able to put a little bit of funds away in the HBD savings account.
The thing that I've been trying to do these last 2 months more specifically is spend the first 24 days of a month (with some leeway of course, nothing is ever carved in stone!) stacking as much Hive as I can by selling all of my HBD. When it gets to the 25th day of the month though, I don't sell any more HBD and I start stashing it all away in my HBD savings account! I have been pretty happy with this mixed process, because it allows me to relatively consistently get some good priced Hive, but at the same time have a little bit of a period where I take a break from buying up Hive and still stash some funds away in savings, to take advantage of the 20% APR that we've got right now. I don't know if that 20% APR is going to last forever, and I kind of hope that it doesn't, but I will be taking advantage of it nonetheless!
This bit of an alternative strategy to be able to stack both my HBD and Hive Power numbers has worked out pretty well for me! It has only been a short 2 months of doing it, but I've enjoyed the flexibility it's offered me instead of being rigorously stuck in one flavor of something or another. Being able to hop around a little bit is nice but for me at the moment with my aspirations in mind, it's pretty good for me to be able to get as much Hive as I can so that I can press forward with getting to some milestones! I'm staring down the barrel of 30k Hive Power and although I'm not gunning towards it, blowing apart everything in my path, it's one of those things where I've got a little bit of number bias going on. I just want to attain that 30k! Lol. That will give me a little bit of breath to then see what I can do to shift some things around among some accounts so that I don't have too much sitting on one. I remember a while back, Task was saying that he's working on adjusting around his account valuations and powering down to move stuff over to alternate accounts, so there isn't one giant honeypot that someone can try to steal. Not like they'd be able to steal much, with the powerdown timeframe we've got but that's a different story.
With my strategy here, I'm getting the Hive Power here in good shape but also spreading the love to the account my wife created as well as the account I created for my son. They aren't anything to write home about but it's a good start, and one that's going to keep on growing over time! I'm enjoying giving them a little power up, along with a bigger power up here at home, so that I won't have to go crazy powering down my main account here to move things all over the place to different accounts to add extra layers of security. If you do it out of the gate, you're in better shape I think!

I guess the Binance vs SEC saga certainly gives pressure towards the price of the whole crypto.
I also think I might be keeps on buying hive with my HDB from the rewards and halting the HBD savings goals, at least until the hive price moves up.
One thing I’ve learnt both from cmplxty and other veterans is to never completely halt either HBD or Hive accumulation. Sure you can prioritize one at a given time based on market conditions, but don’t totally halt accumulation:)
yeah, I also think the same. I used to halt and missed my opportunity on my early time, but not for now. Trying my best to grow either hive and HBD depending on the market.
Keep it up my friend, you are already in the right direction with the best guidance. : )
It's all about balance!
Yeah there’s a lot of FUD going on out there but I’m using these opportunities to buy the dips! That way we can stack things and have a nice bit of comfort room if things suddenly shoot up. I would eventually love to have 2-300 hive sitting there liquid so that I can make quick trades if I need to for maximum rewards in the long run. Not sure how I’ll manage that right now hahaha but it’s a goal!
You’re doing great, just keep it up! There’s lots of differing strategies and none are the best but most are good.
Thanks so much. Been learning from you. : )
I might also will have liquid hive after reaching my HP goals, but keeping it idle while my account is still small is not good either. hahah
all are confusingly for good reason.
Lol I’m always looking forward to reading your posts about these kinds of things because you always have some tricks up your sleeve.
Here I am still struggling with getting a grip on HBD savings because I can’t resistant converting it all to Hive. This 25-day Hive and 4-day HBD strategy is another one of your very wise strategies I’m stealing:)
I currently have been taking advantage of the Hive price myself and bought a lot of Hive which I’ve powered up. Doing it right now to cover for some very heavy cashouts I did last month due to some unforeseen expenses I had to take care of. Thankfully, I’ve finally hit 2k HP and should be at 2.1k by end of this week hopefully! I’m positive I’ll be far above my 2.5K HP yearly goal by end of year. Exciting stuff!
That's awesome man, the good thing is to do what you need to when you need it but when you don't get back into holding mode!
For HBD savings, I wouldn't worry too much about going nuts on it. Give it a few days of putting into it like this here but focus mainly on hive at these prices. You'll be sitting much nicer come bull market time and you're getting great returns! Also, getting into the several thousands of HP starts to kick off your curation rewards, which shoots up account growth quite nicely!
I think you'll be able to make 3k by the end of the year man, keep it up!
I'm always keeping half and half. I sell half the rewards and send the rest to the savings. That lets me stack it in a different way, but any method in which you're increasing your savings and HP at the same time is a great idea. I might try yours for this month since the price went under 30 cents. It could be useful to get the HP up to 6k as soon as possible. Maybe the bearish market will help me hit 10k before the year is over. One can only dream.
That's awesome dude! Yeah I like this for times like this when the market is quite subdued from a price perspective. No problem at all swapping HBD for more Hive per transaction than a few weeks ago that's for sure!
I think that still doing a little bit of adding into savings is important though, because we have to take advantage of the different areas that we can! I would certainly love to have 1-2k HBD in savings but at the same time, for me growing my HP stake is much more of a priority. That helps me increase the exponential growth via things like increased curation rewards that accompany a higher HP, which helps improve growth. Since the beginning of this year my curation rewards have changed from about 4.5 HP per day to a little over 6 now which is a pretty sizable bump! It would be sweet to get to double digits and I know I'll get there one of these days, but just taking it one step at a time.
You'll definitely make good progress towards that 10k goal! I have a feeling there will be many weeks of these depressed values, with a sudden spike in prices of crypto towards the end of the summer I reckon. I am thinking a bump up in bitcoin and others to give some hype and then it will crash into a mountain. None of this is guaranteed of course, but I think that's a likely scenario.
Yeah, the bear market will last until someone seizes the opportunity to make a big take on the bigger coins and make everything go up in no time. This is the time for grinders to get some needed investment in their influence around. If I could get some bitcoin or one of the others, I'd certainly do. For now, I'll stick with the free nature of investment via rewards. I wish my curation rewards would get to at least 1, but there's a long way to go before that even happens.
Let's make the most out of this bear market to make those HP values go high.
Cheers dude, it's all one step at a time but a step forward nonetheless!
Indeed!
Since HBD is pegged to the dollar, I think of it as a dollar.
I thought the price of HIVE was high a month ago; so I put all my funds in HBD. I think the price of HIVE is a little bit more reasonable.
I've been putting funds into coins on HE.
I suspect that it has a little bit further to drop. When it is low enough, I will probably withdraw my HBD from savings and convert it to HIVE.
The 20% interest on HBD is not sustainable. I suspect that the witnesses will have to lower the interest rate on HBD.
I suspect that dropping the interest rate will cause another dip in the price of HIVE. But if HIVE could return to a reasonable interest rate on HBD, then we will see the price of HIVE skyrocket.

Yeah I'm a little skeptical on the sustainability of HBD at 20%, I remember reading your post and I think you put it quite well. We will see how things shake out! In the meantime though, I'm certainly stacking things away. I might make a move and see if I can take out all my HBD from savings and pump up some Hive. 408 HBD will turn into quite a nice bit of Hive at these prices!
What do you think your range is for cashing out your HBD? I'm thinking maybe .24 for me.
The danger of HBD is that people buy HBD when HIVE is high. They convert their HBD to HIVE when the price is weak. This puts an extreme downward pressure on the price of HIVE.
There are been three big dips in the price of HIVE since December.
Each of these dips saw people convert over a million HBD into HIVE.
A million HBD converted to HIVE at $0.3 produces 3.3 million HIVE.
The market has to absorb this HIVE when the market is weak.
We've seen the HBD scheme generate 10 million HIVE during these last market dips. It is insane.
The ideal is to do the conversion at the bottom of the market. I was thinking of cashing out at $0.28. After last night's dip I think the price of HIVE might drop further.

The 20% might only last maybe a year or two or 5, I don't know, but it'll likely be adjusted pretty soon. I do think think everyone needs different strategies to adapt and adjust to the swings in the market. I bought some HBD when hive was 2$ and I have been trying to grow my hive power as well. I think different strokes for different folks. If possible, get your wife posting regularly
Sounds like a good strategy cmplxty. I’ve got 1200 hbd in savings and I’m planning to let that compound.
At the same time I sold 30 swap.hbd for about 100 swap.hive.
Nice strategy. I am looking for a way to rebuild my HBD savings. I basically converted to Hive and had to sell most to 'live' but I see some opportunities on the horizon to get my hands on a nice amount of Hive, possibly HBD and BTC in the near future.
