Autumn is My Favorite

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to chat a little bit about the wonderful seasons that we have in some parts of the world!

Autumn is My Favorite

I'm switching the Wednesday Walk a little bit, and it's going to encompass a few different spots that we visited!

Don't get me wrong, I love a good bit of summer weather, where temps are nice and toasty and you go outside to the beach or something and soak in the sun, waves and the energy of the crowds of people around. That for me though is something that has a lifespan and I guess it comes from living in an area my whole life where we get the changes of seasons, having 4 different seasons instead of 2 or 3 seasons, or 1 long season.

That's the beauty of life and the world that we live in! There is all kinds of variety and things for different kinds of people. For me personally, Autumn is one of my favorite times of year. The cool crisp air, the vast amounts of festivals and places to go for people to sample some of the delicious foods and things that people have worked so hard during the summer months to put together. It's a smorgasbord of wonderful shit, all crammed into a few weeks! My wife snapped a picture of the little man and I trying to get our fishing on, with the beautiful autumn colors as the backdrop!

Fall in the New England area of the United States is one that I know many people in the world would love to see and I know that I didn't really appreciate or take advantage of the completely breathtaking and beautiful place that I'm living in until a few different things happened. One of them was the birth of my son and the other one is the ability to interact with and talk to people from around the world who have never been to a place like this, and love the beauty of it.

I've certainly become much more aware of the special ability to recognize where I grew up as a wonderful place, so I apologize for being a little nostalgic haha. The mountains here, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, are a special spot indeed. We always go up here, as do many thousands of other people from the area and throughout the world, to experience the full bliss of the fall colors. You have to be careful though, because sometimes you can miss it if you go too late!

IMG_0472.jpg

The colors of all of the various plant life changing from summer growth to autumnal decay and eventual death is a wonderful transition. The cycle of life for sure! I know that in the days we live in right now, we tend to fear death and the things that surround it. What we have to recognize though is that death is just part of the cycle of life. Without life we cannot have death and without death we cannot have life. It's quite the important concept!

Seeing the trees and plants letting go of their summer glow and transitioning over to their autumn coat is pretty damn cool, the vibrant yellows, oranges, reds and other various shades on that end of the color spectrum are amazing to see. What's interesting is the focus on the yellows for a lot of these things. I wonder why that is, and maybe I will do a little research on it to see why that is the case.

IMG_0466.jpg

I love seeing the giant maple trees in all their splendor. The bright yellows like this are one of my favorites! I have a soft spot for the reds and oranges that's for sure because they aren't as common but the really bright yellows are something else! A lot of the trees have a subdued yellow but if you catch a maple in it's glory like this one, you will be treated with one heck of a show with the glowing yellow that it offers onlookers!

This spot here is at one of the major lakes in the New England area, Lake Winnipesaukee. I haven't been there much but I know that we will make it a point to stop by a bit every autumn to check out the gorgeous colors!

IMG_0462.jpg

Some fall photography wouldn't be complete of the New England area without the quintessential tractor though! I think having tractors on the farms that we visit is one of the coolest things to see, especially when you can juxtapose it on a foreground of beautiful leaves changing colors like this here. This farm is a really nice one that we stumbled upon several years ago and now we are regular visitors of the spot, for various reasons but we always go here in the fall to spend a few hours to sit down, enjoy the scenery and watch the kids and my son play with the animals and various things around.

IMG_0507.JPEG

It's not quite autumn yet, we still have a few more weeks of summer to go but I was looking through some old pictures and knew that I wanted to share some memories from recent years in the autumnal beauty!

Stunning colours you got in those photos. Autumn is my favourite too. You need to frame that pic of you and your son fishing, it's wonderful.

Thanks! Yeah the colors are awesome. I'm enjoying the last few weeks of summer but I'm looking forward to autumn for sure lol. That also means farm and festival season!

I do like that picture of me and the little man!

Thanks! I didn't find out where you're going when you come here again. Have you figured out which area you're going to be in? If you’re up for a recommendation I can give you one :D

You are welcome @cmplxty 😎
You missed my comment I think 😉
We are 4 nights in Portsmouth after that we drive about 2 hours up into Maine. After that Vermont 3 nights close to the border of NH and Mass. and a stay of 4 nights in New York State about half an hour right side of Hudson until we fly home again.
So looking forward to it.
Recommendations are always welcome 😁

I did miss the comment! Apologies :D

I’m hoping you’re renting a car! If you’re not then these might not be easy spots to visit.

Ah wonderful places you’re visiting, 2 hours into Maine, are you going to one of the lakes or the ocean? There’s a lot between them! Lol. Long sands beach in York Maine is wonderful, our definite favorite!

If you’re in for trying some sea food you should try this place here, it’s the best clams in the state of Maine! Delicious and next to a pretty fun outlet store. It’s about 15 minutes north of Portsmouth. It’s our favorite clam spot and seafood spot!

As well there’s a wonderful bakery of delicious breads called When Pigs Fly that’s about 10 minutes north of there on route 1. Amazing breads and they serve delicious pizza too! We like Portsmouth but we’ve had better food north of there than we have in Portsmouth itself. If you like Mexican food there’s Los Cocos Tacos that’s almost right over the big bridge in Portsmouth, right when you cross into Maine that’s pretty good! Also for good coffee you will never go wrong with the local chain Aroma Joe’s, they are our favorite.

If you’re looking for some cool history as well, you can visit the USS Albacore, it was one of the first modern submarine and it was built right there in Portsmouth and Kittery which is awesome! We love going there.

On your drive from Maine to Vermont you should definitely drive by Mount Washington! It will likely bring you that way but that’s the tallest mountain on the eastern side of the United States and is really cool! There’s a steam train that brings you to the top of the mountain that’s been operating since the late 1870’s I think it is! The exact same engine! They’ve made repairs to it but it’s the same train this whole time it’s wild! Really cool.

If you’re a little south of there instead of up near Mount Washington you should drive the Kancamangus highway that connects North Conway New Hampshire to Lincoln New Hampshire. It’s an absolutely beautiful ride, full of rolling hills and stunning views of the mountains! You can then go down interstate 93 for a ways and cut over to 89 and then there’s a road that will take you down to the Massachusetts border of Vermont and New Hampshire.

New York I don’t know a lot about, funny as it is! Never been to upstate before but we will be giving that a try soon as well!

Looking forward to seeing if any of these are in your wheel house!

No worries… we only had Portsmouth planned in that comment, but exploring further we have it all set now.

Of course we rent a car. We know from our previous visit it is needed. Especially the places we want to visit and the ones off the beaten path. That’s what we always do when traveling far away.
Don’t understand that some people still think one can get everywhere without a car.
Like the remote places in New England.

We are going up towards the lakes.
Bit the days in Portsmouth we will travel around, not just stay in the city.
Those places for food and coffee sound great and I will add them to our travels schedule. Thanks!

Yep, the submarine was already on the list.
Not sure if we can fit mount Washington in but the Kancamangus highway we already have planned to drive.
Noted those roads for going down.

We were thinking of doing the north Conway railroad trip with the mountaineer… but after reading reviews from it. We are going to drive ourselves up north for the views and fall foliage 🍂🍁 I think we will see more going of the highways and just stop when we want.

Really… will tell you when we visited New York State, but maybe you are there sooner than me.
Have fun exploring when you do.

Sooo looking forward to our trip.
Are we coming close to you? Or are you still further up…

Happy weekend and enjoy your Friday!
Thanks @cmplxty for your suggestions. Very helpful 👋🏻😊

You’ll be pretty close! Most of the places you’ll visit we are about 60 minutes from so not far at all!

Sounds like you’re got a wonderful itinerary going on! The whole area is full of beautiful and wonderful places! We will be spending every weekend in the next 8 weeks or so driving around the beautiful area! Really looking forward to it!

Since you have a car, there is a farm nearby Portsmouth that was voted the #4 most beautiful farm in the world called Cider Hill farm in Amesbury Massachusetts. It’s one of our absolute favorites!

That’s indeed not tooooo far 😉

I can imagine… you see the leaves turning fully from start to finish 😎 enjoy the trips.
Thanks a lot.

Added the farm too, will have a look there. We are very close to it.
Thank you so much.
Have an awesome weekend 👋🏻🐝

For sure man! I love spring but autumn takes it for me. I think it's all the wonderful fair's and festivals that are so much fun.

Have you been to the Topsfield fair yet? That one is awesome! It's a bit of a drive from New Bedford that's for sure but it's a wonderful time! Gigantic fair grounds and a lot of fun for the kids!

If you don’t mind me asking how’s your wife doing and her shoulder? I hope she’s recovered or on the mend!

I checked Topsfield is about an hour 40 minutes from here I would love to visit it, but dont like being away from home for that long with the time there and back and I would imagine I would spent ages there

I would prefer to go with my wife but she is not so motivated to get out as much as she used to, her shoulder is pretty much the same not to much pain but limited movement, I think after the hip replacement and now the shoulder a big part of her issue is she lacks confidence to get out and do things hopefully with time that will improve, but I can understand her feeling that way

There are all four seasons here in Pakistan, but especially people prefer winter because the heat is unbearable.

Yes I can imagine people prefer that over the heat!
