Coffee with milk since preschool

At home we always drink coffee with milk. For as long as I can remember the classic breakfast of bread with cheese and coffee with milk has been on our table.

I think that in the old days the food and child-rearing habits were less strict than nowadays... When my daughter was 4 years old, I was already drinking coffee with milk.

It was always accompanied by milk, because coffee alone was too strong for children.

IMG_20240802_211026~2.jpg

Today I still have the same spirit as a child... but with the difference that now I drink black coffee without any additives and I love it.

In our countries they have made us drink coffee from a very young age, in my house it was also customary to drink coffee with milk for the children and that's not missing the bread. A delight!🥐

I leave you a cup of coffee for morning.☕untitled.gif

It’s interesting how the age of people starting to drink coffee varies so widely across the countries and continents. I don’t think here in Europe it is okay for younger people (less than 15-16 years of age) to consume coffee. This is totally different in coffee producing countries like Venezuela and Brazil!

Here in Venezuela you see that a lot, parents giving coffee to children, but in my home it was different, coffee was for adults, children drank hot chocolate (Toddy), so I started drinking it after adulthood and now I don't miss it in my day to day life! I love it!☺️😋☕☕

I've been drinking coffee ever since I can remember too. Coffee + creamer, with bread. Or I even put it on my rice as soup! Great match with fried fish. 🤤

Now, I also don't restrict my kids though they do not ask for coffee regularly. When they do, it's more like milk with coffee.

Yes, @chacald.dcymt, in cafe con leche I think it is more suitable for the little ones, in quantities not too excessive.

Venezuelan families have been characterized by this breakfast, coffee or coffee with milk, bread, butter and white cheese...a blessing.

I think as we grow, the difference is always known. Taking coffee for a long time now, that's great to hear.

I started drinking young too but my family is a hardcore black coffee drinker with sugar. I tried it with milk, but I keep getting back to pure black.

A lot of preference when it comes to drinking coffee, right?

And to my side, I always love coffee with milk too. I am not used to black coffees for it's too strong for my tummy.

Same here, same latte & breakfast story 😄

I think both my son and I started drinking latte at 4 or a little before.

For me this experience is summed up four years ago ☕🤎 after considering that first cup of coffee, the experience with this drink has been wonderful, especially with that coffee with milk every morning ☕🥐🥖🍞, my girl still doesn't drink coffee or coffee with milk, she doesn't like the taste, however I think it's the best, it took me some generations to enjoy and continue the tradition of coffee in my home, now I enjoy my coffee moments ☕ ♨️ 🤎

Happy Saturday!

I don't remember the exact age when I started drinking coffee. What I do remember is that it was at an early age, let's say around 6 years old... Since then, habits have not changed. As far back as I can remember, coffee has been present since the morning. The coffee-making implements in my grandmother's kitchen, in my mother's house, and now in our house have served us for as long as I can remember...

image.png

My mother taught my son Andrés to eat bread with coffee with milk with bread when he was around a year old, just starting to walk. In my family, coffee has been more than a tradition, because it has set the standards for upbringing.

Every family has its own customs and that is what makes them unique. Here in Cumaná, where I live, the first one founded on the American continent, there is a lot of tradition around coffee, that must culturally influence our experiences and customs.

That Hot Brewed Black Coffee!

It started when I was a kid, probably when I was 10 years old. I couldn't remember exactly my age but I was in grade school at the time. I was too curious what my elders do enjoy drinking so much every morning and before going to work after lunch. The sweet aroma of it everytime they brew it often made me storm into the kitchen to see how they make it.

Until my curiosity couldn't take it any longer, I tried sipping into my Mom's cup when anyone wasn't looking. It was a bit bitter but sweeter since she put sugar in it but I liked it first since I get to have boost of energy, preferred it for its stimulants. As I grew older, I have explored more variety and recipes of coffee, different kinds of roasts, but I have loved that hot brewed black coffee until now.

Right now, I have it in my daily rituals and honestly, it became my comfort drink. Everytime, I feel down, stressed, ecstatic or whatever, it urges me to brew a cup and savor its every sip until the last drop.

Hello, happy Sunday, @ayane-chan.
Your start in the coffee ritual began in a risky way, that gives it a touch of adventure. Now that you mention it, it's true, at first coffee tastes strange and you end up wondering how so many people like it...ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,... then you understand.

Coffee is really like a miracle drink. As a heavy coffee drinker I know that coffee can be consumed by younger people too, I’m not-so-high quantity, but I doubt my children would start drinking coffee before their teen years. It’s just not the habit here in Bulgaria and my kids would most probably follow the standard.

To the last drop without a doubt, coffee invites us to share a wonderful relationship, among the many ways of preparation that are increasingly added to the market.

As a child for me in the 80's, brewed coffee was the king of the meetings, morning, noon or night, adding a few spoonfuls of powdered whole milk, gave it the difference that everyone enjoyed, seeing the pot, the strainer and the cups to drink coffee ☕ was more than tradition.

I began my coffee journey at age 28 which was two years ago and my habit has never changed even though the routine changed. When I first started, I drink my coffee in the evening towards bed time as I would stay awake till 1 or 2 am until I force myself to sleep, but later, I changed to drinking very early in the morning before going out and that has works effectively to help me stay awake and active.

I forgot when actually I into the caffein. I just remember when I am in high school, I tried to sachet coffee because my father usually brought the nescafe. Since then, I like caffein but in sachet. All those years I am head over heels of sachet coffee until I know starbucks and all coffee shop and knewing that their coffee is so delicious more than sachet coffee.

I was just going to ask @ayane-chan what Starbucks is, but I assumed it's a coffee shop. Nescafe in a bag is very tasty; I don't drink it much, apart from the fact that it's expensive here... just like you, I prefer coffee from cafes.

I love this question as it takes me back to the happiest years of every human being: childhood.

At home we all drank coffee and our first cup was almost a latte. At that time it was used to accompany any dessert or for breakfast. Because of its stimulating properties we were not allowed (my brothers and me) to drink it without milk but since I was 5 years old I have been drinking coffee, it is possible that it was before that time because I was curious to try it; I just don't remember it, but since I was 5 years old, that is the age we consider to have the use of reason. From then on the habit has been maintained.

I enjoy all desserts with a coffee with milk but little by little I have been decreasing the sugar in my coffee and I have increased the caffeine load. It is a joy to enjoy a divine black coffee and even more so if it is with a pleasant company.

As a child, i was used to drinking tea and i never even drank coffee, but i actually knew about nescafe coffee since high school through my friends.

It was in the university that my love for coffee began and that would be me at 18 year old. The purpose for me drinking coffee then was majorly because of the caffeine and sometimes during exam periods i need to be awake during the midnight. Now, my habits towards drinking coffee as changed , as i drink it anytime to cool down my body and not just mostly in the night to be awake for reading.

When we were young, we were not allowed to drink any coffee because my parents will always say that milk were the best one for us.

During my college days, when I had to move out from my parents to go to the city, that's the time I've learn to drink. There were days when I need to hurry up and no time for me to eat my breakfast properly. That's the time I've learn to drink coffee just to have a little push to my tummy until lunch time.

When meeting with friends for planning and making our thesis, we head over for a cup of coffee to make our plans.

Until then, seeing my friends over a cup of coffee will always give us unlimited time of chatting and updating.

Hey coffee firends!

I hope your Sunday is going great.

I probably tried coffee before I could speak... My mother used to moisten my baby's lips with sweet coffee when he was just a few months old. As she smiled and sang lullabies or recited funny rhymes, she'd dip the tip of her index finger in her coffee cup and run it quickly over my son's lips as she rocked him in her arms. It was naughty of her but funny; I like to think she did the same with me. My baby smiled; I should've smiled as well.

image.png

A gentle latte would come with buttered toasts, arepas, or a cheese sandwich when I was four; I have confusing memories of that. I remember I'd invite my next door neighbor & BF over for latte. We sat on the porch and without saying it aloud, we pretended we were older, like ten years older. That much older, a lot for us.

image.png

Now it's almost black coffee all the time for me, homemade coffee from my moka pot--though it's my little French press on the photos, which shape and vibrant green gives me some joy--. Espresso is my favorite. No sugar. The thicker the layer of foam on top the better; someday I'll by that espresso machine and share my happiness with you!

Sixteen is a nice age to start enjoying the benefits of coffee. We ususally need extra energy at that age because we go to bed late and must wake up early no matter what. Also, you can go for coffee with friends instead of going for ice cream, which is more expensive and has more sugar, for example. Finally, you can join in conversations with those relatives that are much older than you; you can do that if you're 8 or 9, for instance.

I started consuming coffee when I was in the high school(16-17yo), because here in Bulgaria it is not common for the younger kids to consume coffee. The general thought is that caffeine is quite harmful for the young people, so it’s better to start drinking coffee not before 15 yo.

But… I remember that in my family there used to be an old manual coffee grinder just like this one…

I liked to grind the coffee for my parents… and now I have quite the superior grinder, and I sometimes recall the old childish habits of grinding my parents’ coffee. Now one of my sons enjoys grinding coffee a lot too and whenever I forget to give him the honor, he feels really sad… 😁

I started drinking coffee when I was 40 years old, during the confinement of the pandemic and the existing crisis in the country, for that year my daughter turned five years old, she stopped breastfeeding, so isolated and with my emotions and feelings working strongly in me, one of those days I tried my first cup of espresso ☕, so after that first and pleasant time, my coffee moments arose, that connection and that unique passion that surrounds us with every sip ♨️☕🤎. Excellent Sunday conversation coffee lovers.

I think I commented a lot about how it is in our Latin American culture how children are taught from a very young age to drink coffee. The majority of Latinos, if I am not mistaken, can say that from a very young age they began to enjoy coffee. I dared to say that a Latino who did not drink coffee as a child was not a Latino as a joke.🤭

My case is no exception, I started drinking coffee at a very young age, just like my siblings, cousins, friends, etc.. I could not say in what year exactly, but I do remember that the coffee was not very strong and many times our parents added milk to it. I can say through my experience that I feel fortunate to enjoy from an early age until today, the delight of coffee.☕

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your comments and I hope to continue reading you with your coffee experiences.

I think you might be right about Latinos; we start drinking coffee at an early age, but it's usually weak coffee mixed with with cow's milk, and I know that most parents add sugar. It's not the healthiest thing but it's our thing 😄
