The "Is This Gonna Be On the Test" Society
Our society is plagued by laziness. We're seeing so many people coming out of the woodwork these days who talk about anxiety and talk about mental health and talk about "how hard the world has become".
This is all bullshit. The world has never been so easy. It's never been easier to be a human being and live right now.
Just look at the rate of death of infants. Look at how long our average lifespan is.
Need I remind you: do you go out into the wilderness and try to find food to eat? Or do you go to a grocery store and buy it with 100% certainty that it will be there?
It's wild to think about how far we as humans have come, yet we take it all for granted.
Is This Gonna Be on The Test?
This is the craziest question you could hear someone ask in school. This goes to show you how bad the school system is.
Essentially, the student is asking the teacher: I'll trade you a temporary memorization of whatever you want me to know in exchange for an A on the next test. Then I'll forget it, because it's not important enough to remember for the sake of remembering.
Society has fallen into a weird state. Life is easier than ever but life is also more confusing than ever.
On Confusion
I genuinely believe that a lot - not all. I still believe SOME but not most people face a real mental disorder - of mental health issues are simply caused because we as human beings are quite confused about the state of reality.
Our evolution tells us that we don't know when our next meal will be and we don't know if/when we'll have clean water and shelter.
It tells us to stuff our faces with food when we see it because of this. It teaches us to consume all we can in this moment because the next moment isn't promised.
While the next moment isn't promised, the next meal is almost essentially a guarantee. You're far from starving in western society and if you're reading this, you're further still.
What to do about it?
We need to change our mindset. Appreciate all those good things around us and look for the things that truly matter. Stop worrying about "if this is going to be on the test" - and I mean that in a metaphorical, adult sense - and start worrying about what you're passionate about. What you're disciplined about. What you care about.
