Height of Motherhood
Nature has a way of caring for its offspring because she has the embodiment and embedded characteristics of motherhood. I have witnessed situations/scenarios where Mother Earth retaliates when it has been polluted enough with wasteful products. I have seen scenes where animals of different species protect and fight for each other. This is how mothers should fight and protect their children during those times when harm almost befalls them.
Mothers are naturally implanted with high-leveled protective traits and sacrifices that are only triggered when they feel danger coming close to their offspring, and this is how you can detect who a real mother is. This does not only involve the biological act of giving birth but also the social, emotional, and lifetime commitment to the child’s welfare and development.
It is not surprising that we have a high rate of mothers who just give birth and nurture children but they aren’t mothers, they biologically birth the child but do not have the power and strength of motherhood. I am quite a keen observer at all times and I can rant when it is needed to. Maternal instincts are what I will call it.
I believe that many exceptional beings or even animals possess these rare and authentic traits, this is an epitome of undiluted love and traces of humanity naturally ingrained in them.
Have you watched a clip on Instagram/Facebook/X and developed goosebumps all over your body? Have you seen the act of kindness, humility, motherly affection, and sacrifice displayed right on your screen only for you to be teary? Have you seen a situation/ a scenario that pisses you off and you lament and say “She should have done this and done that...”?
All of this depicts the humanity in you and it changes your recourse!
Motherhood does not have one definition, it has multiple definitions that only those who have experienced motherhood, those who have the touch and maternal instincts, and those who have benefited from such experience can tell the tales of it because it is a combination of profound raw emotions, multifaceted experiences that encompass nurturing love and the responsibilities attached in raising children.
Selflessness and maternal instincts...
Selflessness and Sacrifice have similarities: “selflessness” is the ability to be concerned with the needs, wants, and desires of others primarily your children other than that of yourself, and “sacrifice” is an act of giving up something valued for the sake of something else regarded as more important or worthy.
The similarities are;
- Putting your child first.
- Acting with Empathy.
- Altruistic Motivation.
- Contributing to the relationships between mother and child.
- The Acts of Giving.
With these characteristics above, a profound mother is ingrained with these attributes naturally and tends to express them at some point in her life.
In Africa, our mothers are fond of carrying a baby at their back so that they can multitask properly. Understandably, there are a lot of activities at hand like, carrying out house chores, and going to the market to get groceries and other items for the house but at the same time it is important to look out for the little being behind you all tied up to know if they are in good shape.
That brings me to the scene that I witnessed which I am about to narrate;
I was done buying stuff from the market and boarded a bus at the park; I sat in the back seat of the bus at least that was where I was most comfortable after going around the market. As a norm, I have this routine of always surveying my environment before settling properly and as I was doing that my gaze fell on this woman.
She carried her baby on her back whilst sitting down on the seat, so I observed her closely and I noticed that the baby wasn’t sitting properly.
Everyone in Nigeria knows how a public bus can be; the seats are something else unless one enters a convenient one.
That woman was sitting and holding a wrapped mat while the baby was tied to her back. The seat was quite okay but the edge where someone’s back would relax had an iron that was quite sharp.
The clothing of the seat didn’t reach that edge and that was where the baby's head was, any movement of the public bus would result in that baby’s head hitting there several times.
Unfortunately, that area of the market has a very bad road and would take roughly thirty minutes to reach the section where the road is smooth.
I imagined the baby’s head hurt from so many hits that would inflict pain on him plus the fact that she didn’t carry him well; his both legs were bent in a very wrong position and his hands: one stuck inside the wrapper and the second bent outside. That annoyance stirred up in me and I called her to please put her baby in good condition, I furthermore explained how the baby's head would hurt several times and how he was not in good posture.
A Good Samaritan who was also a mother carrying her child, lent her the baby fur blanket she was holding by placing it at the edge of the iron where the baby's head is to avoid inflicting pain on the child. After everything was fixed, I told her to always look out for her child every time because she couldn’t see the back but someone else could. She thanked me and the public bus moved, with that fur blanket behind the baby's hair there was no contact with the iron.
I was happy she listened and the baby was looked after immediately and seeing that gave me satisfaction.

Well done! Your writeup captured the true definition of motherhood, what it entails and how the love of a mother should be expressed. Glad you started with nature and ended with a good scenario of how you saved a baby from getting injured. I believe you'll make a good mother! Good job 👍 #dreemerforlife
Putting our child needs first is something i find myself practicing, and every mother should highly do the same i presume... Children' has lots of rules and codes to understand #dreemerforlife
