Hoy toda mi familia está de fiesta porque Emily consolidó uno de sus sueños más anhelados, graduarse de Técnico Superior Universitario en la carrera de “Publicidad y Mercadeo”.

Yo siempre les he contado de Emily, ella es mi sobrina, hija de mi hermana Gloria, pero es la hija que la vida me dio. Yo no tuve la suerte de tener una hija hembra, pero seguro hubiese deseado que fuese como esta niña, quien a pesar de las circunstancias de la vida ha sido muy fuerte y no se ha dejado caer.

Today my whole family is celebrating because Emily consolidated one of her most cherished dreams, graduating from college in the career of "Advertising and Marketing".
I have always told you about Emily, she is my niece, daughter of my sister Gloria, but she is the daughter that life gave me. I was not lucky enough to have a female daughter, but I would have wished for her to be like this girl, who despite the circumstances of life has been very strong and has not let herself fall.

Por cosas del destino mi hermana Gloria se tuvo que ir a tierras lejanas en busca de un mejor futuro, para ella y para su hija, es por eso que hoy me tocó representarla en el acto, cosa que me causó un profundo orgullo representar tan honorable papel.

As fate would have it, my sister Gloria had to go to distant lands in search of a better future, for her and her daughter, that is why today I had to represent her in the act, which caused me a deep pride to play such an honorable role.

Antes de continuar me gustaría contarles un poco quien es Emily; ella desde los 15 años quedó con su padre ya que como les dije mi hermana se fue; aunque en un principio Gloria quiso llevársela y se hicieron muchos trámites el destino se opuso por completo, ocurrieron muchos inconvenientes y con el tiempo desistieron de irse juntas. Yo quedé pendiente de la niña quien prácticamente ha vivido conmigo desde entonces.

Before I continue, I would like to tell you a little bit about who Emily is; she has been with her father since she was 15 years old because as I told you my sister left; although at first Gloria wanted to take her and many steps were taken, destiny was completely opposed, many inconveniences occurred and eventually they decided not to leave together. I was left looking after the girl who has practically lived with me since then.

Yo la quiero mucho, Emily es sinónimo de seriedad, responsabilidad, compromiso. Nunca nos ha dado un dolor de cabeza por mal comportamiento, malas juntas o libertinaje. Si la buscas siempre está en su casa, cuidándose. Los años pasaron y Emily se graduó de bachiller y enseguida comenzó a estudiar “Publicidad y Mercadeo” esto le atrajo ya que le gusta crear, convertir, sacarle brillo a las cosas. De ella he aprendido mucho y aunque nunca la he podido meter en Hive siempre me ayuda para que mis cosas queden más bonitas en mi blog.

I love her very much, Emily is synonymous of seriousness, responsibility, commitment. She has never given us a headache because of bad behavior, bad meetings or debauchery. If you look for her she is always at home, taking care of herself. The years passed and Emily graduated from high school and immediately began to study "Advertising and Marketing" this attracted her because she likes to create, to convert, to make things shine. I've learned a lot from her and even though I've never been able to get her on Hive she always helps me to make my stuff look nicer on my blog.

Emily y yo nos llevamos muy bien, somos buenas amigas, ella ha visto en mí a una segunda madre y eso me hace inmensamente feliz.

Hoy que la veo graduarse junto a sus amigos solo puedo decir que la felicidad no me cabe en el pecho, que las lágrimas no se pudieron detener cuando escuché decir su nombre y verla recibir su título y medalla; en ese momento solo pude pensar en mi hermana, por un momento hubiese querido que ella estuviese allí.

Emily and I get along very well, we are good friends, she has seen in me a second mother and that makes me immensely happy.

Today that I see her graduating with her friends I can only say that happiness does not fit in my chest, that tears could not stop when I heard her name and see her receive her degree and medal; at that moment I could only think of my sister, for a moment I would have wanted her to be there.

Esta corta pero a su vez gran frase, es un extracto del discurso que dijera la alumna encargada del discurso de grado, al escucharla quedo rondando en mi mente porque deja un gran mensaje y se refiere al miedo que muchos tenemos, sobre todo a esa edad cuando sales de bachiller y no sabes para dónde ir. Miedo que nos paraliza y no nos deja ver con claridad cómo construir nuestro futuro, probar e intentar cosas nuevas. Esta reflexión nos invita a ser perseverantes y a no temer al momento de decidir lo que queremos hacer.

This short but at the same time great phrase, is an excerpt from the speech that the student in charge of the graduation speech said, when I heard it, it stayed in my mind because it leaves a great message and refers to the fear that many of us have, especially at that age when you leave high school and do not know where to go. Fear that paralyzes us and does not let us see clearly how to build our future, try and try new things. This reflection invites us to be perseverant and not to be afraid when deciding what we want to do.

Por suerte Emily ha contado con su familia, con su papá, su tío Mauricio, y con mi familia que la hemos acogido como una hija no solo desde ahora sino desde el primer día que nació, por eso siempre mis hijos dicen que ella es su hermana.

Luckily Emily has had her family, her father, her uncle Mauricio, and my family who have welcomed her as a daughter not only from now but from the first day she was born, that's why my children always say that she is their sister.

Este apoyo ha sido primordial y ojala más familias entendieran que aunque estén separados no debemos dejar de apoyar con palabras, gestos, compromiso. Eso eleva la autoestima de una persona y no la deja derrumbar en momentos difíciles.

This support has been essential and I wish more families understood that even though they are separated we should not stop supporting them with words, gestures, commitment. This raises a person's self-esteem and does not let them fall apart in difficult moments.

Otro punto que me llamo la atención fue saber que esta promoción de 105 alumnos son el resultado del estudio a distancia, hecho que fue reconocido en su discurso por la directora de la universidad; esta generación han tenido que estudiar desde sus casas, aprender, presentar trabajos y surcar las miles de dificultades que nos imponía la pandemia del Covid-19. Esto sin lugar a dudas ha sido su mayor reto pero aquí están, se graduaron, salieron adelante y hoy a nosotros solo nos queda alzar la copa y brindar.

Another point that caught my attention was to know that this class of 105 students are the result of distance learning, a fact that was recognized in her speech by the director of the university; this generation has had to study from home, learn, present work and navigate the thousands of difficulties imposed on us by the Covid-19 pandemic. This has undoubtedly been their biggest challenge but here they are, they graduated, they got ahead and today we can only raise our glasses and toast.

Sé que muchos seguirán adelante, ya gracias a Dios Emily consiguió empleo en una agencia de publicidad y ya comienza a tomar experiencia en este campo.

Yo solo le doy gracias a Dios y siempre le seguiré pidiendo para que ayude a estos jóvenes que quieren construir un futuro mejor y hacer país, estudiando, trabajando, aprendiendo.

I know that many will continue to move forward, and thank God Emily got a job in an advertising agency and is beginning to gain experience in this field.

I only thank God and I will always keep asking Him to help these young people who want to build a better future and build a country, studying, working, learning.
