LOH Community Contest #77 ~ My Favourite Childhood Games
Growing up in an environment filled with the opposite gender made childhood an interesting stage of my life that I will never forget and also made me a wild young lad who didn't care about anything but just wanted to have fun.
Although my childhood games always made me go back home with injuries most of the days but my parents couldn't stop me from playing because they knew that would only end up in them being stressed with my problems, so they just allow me to enjoy all the fun I needed regardless the injuries and most times, I never got to disturb them about the injuries because I hated drugs and anything that has to do with hospitals and still do.
For me, playing with toys was not an option because the joy I have played with my peers even though the opposite gender and a bit older than I am can never be compared with the joy of playing with toys because they are no fun, so I never told or disturbed my parents to get me one.
What were your favorite games (or toys) as a child? Tell us about them!
Do you still play any of them now?
For an average Nigerian kid, I think I played 80% games an average Nigerian kid knows and plays the kind of games we play should play, and out of all my favourite games as a kid were
- Daddy and Mummy Play
I always played the role of a mother whenever we are doing this game and I played a good mother, who loves her husband and children so much and wants to see them succeed.
"- Running with Tyre"

This was mostly done on Saturdays because we would have all the kids around to participate. We would get a condemned tyre and a strong stick that can roll the tyre for a very long time without breaking and decide to do a running competition. It was always fun and most times we run around with just our nighties till our parents are ready to bathe us and other times with just our panties and singlets.
- "Hide and Seek under the rain"

Whenever it started raining, all the kids around run into the rain and begin to play hide and seek, and most times we just enjoy the feel of the rain on our skin
- Washing our parent's blackened pot
Yeah, we did that too and most times our parents encourage us to do this because they are always willing to give out cash prizes to the person whose back of his or her pot will be whiter and cleaner.
Since our parents usually use stoves to cook, they always end up having black backs of pots, and most times because they are busy they will decide to give us this part of the dish to do. All we were given was a detergent and sand and I was the only girl in the midst and that makes me come out the winner because I made sure to wash the pot till it comes out sparkling white like a new pot.
I never had the chance to play all those kinds of games after my dad took us out of that neighbourhood because he felt we were going to turn out like the kids in that neighborhood.
This is my entry to the Ladies of Hive Community Contest #77 and I invite @merit.ahama and @iskafan to participate in it.
Oh wow. Someone had an amazing childhood. I have played all games except the pot part.... Never liked washing plates as a child, and I hated it more if there are pots included in the mix 😂😂
🙃😉, I did right?
eh eh, although it was just a game our parents used to make us watch their blackened pot for them. I hate to wash plates even till now, so my mom does all the dishes and even washes the inside of the pot, all I have to do is wash the backside so it was not much of a stress to me.
These games you listed were the best in that time. Lol. Especially the tire and that rubber ring game and otto or canta. Lol
Did you ever play suweh lol.
Childhood was fun tbh. Good ole days...
Daddy and Mummy play...lol. where we'd cook sand with carpet grass and serve our dear husband who'd give us paper Money to go to market and get into a fight with mama nkechi over cost onions. Kai. I really miss those care free days.
Thanks for this beautiful post
Of course, I played suweh I grew up in yoruba land, and from my analysis, I think those guys have the best childhood games so far so good.
Indeed it was fun 🤣🤣🤣, we are this food not in our mouths but placed in our jaws to eat.
I do too, I mean there are games my head can still remember how it is done because of the scars it left behind but I can not remember their names, and worst of all, if I ask someone about it, they tell me they have never played it and I am 😦 😮 because I don't think any childhood game was left untouched by me except I don't wish or like the game.
I played a lot that I have enough scars to give testimony about how I played, thank God some are cleaned off because I was beginning to regret why I allowed myself to get injured because of games.
Thanks for your comment.
I have scars too... Especially from catcher-catcher or I call on
The runnings in those games ehn... I think the American citizens call it London Bridge but out version was Bread and Butter... Wetin we no go see for Nigeria? 😂
LOL
running with tyres and playing in the rain
I miss those simple days, when the imagination played the biggest role in games
And washing blackened pots ... sounds like really good memories :D
It is indeed good old memories that won't be forgotten in a hurry.
Thank you
That is truly fun!!!

You really didn't need toys, everything you needed was within reach and bathing in the rain is the most fun that can exist, you just have to feel like splashing in the rain and getting a little muddy
Yeah, right, you got it even when how parents will plead with us to come out of the rain so we don't become sick due to cold, we always will not listen, while some will end up catching a cold, others will not 😁😄.
Those days were indeed fun.
