The first touch
No word in the dictionary could describe how Serena felt at that moment. All the suffering she had gone through in her 28years on earth was fogotten, although she had little moments of happiness to look back on, still yet nothing could outmatch the joy she felt holding her daughter for the first time.
She held her little miracle closer as if it were her last time holding her. How could someone so tiny bring such Joy, all the hours of labour pain was worth it. She couldn't help the smile that appeared on her face while staring at her sleeping miracle, all the nine months of pregnancy and hours of labour all boiled down to this moment.
She thought of all the things they could do together, all the memories they could make together and how colourful she wanted her child's life to be.
She thought about her life , how she had grown up without a mother's love to shelter her from the harshness the world had to offer. How she had grown up living in different homes of relatives who didn't care about her but rather how much her father sent them, how she had to fend for herself at a young because her dear father had stopped sending money, how she had to start Hawking goods in the market just to finish school because no one thought it was necessary. But now being one of the top lawyers in the country and married to a business tycoon, all the people who had abandoned her wanted their own slice of the cake they refused to bake.
She had once thought that her begining was her end, because once upon a time the world had ruined and broken her to a million pieces that she had given up and thought "her story was over, it was toast" .
But somehow she gained motivation and passion from the brokenness she had felt and moved on to the next phase of her life, it wasn't an easy feat for her as she had no support from anyone who claimed to be someone to her, who claimed to care.
She stared at the angel in her arms and laughed, she traced a finger on her nose bridge and watched her as she slept.
" You will never have to go through that I promise you" she said
And as if the child could understand her, she opened her eyes and stared at her mother for the first time in her life. She couldn't help the tears that ran down her cheek, how could anyone love someone so much.
She kissed her miracle on the top of her forehead and the child in return wrapped her tiny hand around her mother's index finger. She laughed at how tiny they looked compared to her hand. She gently rocked her in her arms and then started to sing a lullaby that she had written just for her.
"Oh my dear little one
Look what you have done
You have taken away my frown
And turned it upside down
Oh my dear little starlight
I can't believe you've arrived
Thank the heavens you came
For I am no more in pain
You show your toothless smile
That always reaches your eyes
How radiant you truly are
Like a bright morning star
You are so small here in my arms
Yet a grown woman you make calm
I wish big things for you
I wish you'll never be blue
Oh my dear little one
You are your mother's pride and joy"
She sang the lullaby over and over again even though the child was already sound asleep in her arms.
"I love you " she said to the sleeping child.
Soon after her husband arrived, seeing his wife with red eyes and their child in her arms, he didn't need to be told what happened because he had felt the same way when he first held her. He dropped the bags he was holding on the table and sat down on the bed beside his wife. He stared at his wife with love in his eyes and they both laughed and he kissed her on her forehead.
" You're finally awake" he said and she nodded.
He then turned his attention to his daughter.
" She is magnificent isn't she" he said to her
" Yes she is" she replied
"You're going to be an amazing mother" he said
" And your going to be an amazing father" she replied.
They sat there on the hospital bed in silence staring at the new addition to their family, watching her sleep.
The birth of a baby always brings those moments of joy and jubilation.
I feel the joy and love as described in this story, such a great love I feel whenever I hold a new born baby.
Great story.
The joy a child brings to a person is indescribable. Keep a baby in a room filled with people and they end up smiling at the child eventually
This is so beautiful and even though I don't know what motherhood feels like, I am a woman and can relate to the feeling.
It must be emotional for after everything she went through while growing up and her experience will only make he a better mom.
There are people who have felt this way without having a child of your own. Being a mother isn't about giving birth to a child, it's about loving that child more than anyone else.

That innocent creature always brings happiness wherever they arrive and it's beautiful to know that Serena was ready to give her daughter a better life than she got.
This is quite emotional and beautiful at the I'm a time. Thanks for sharing.
