Here it is! My presentation from HiveFest 6 last night. What an amazing experience the whole event was and what a huge achievement for @roelandp and everyone who worked on making @hivefest into what it has become. I do want to attend a real life HiveFest one day but the experience of presenting in VR is as close to real as I've ever felt.

You can find my slides here on slides.com.

The QR codes to pay out sats have been used already but if you follow the steps on the penultimate slide you can get 1033 sats into any Lightning wallet that allows you to create an invoice of that amount. It's limited to 1 use per Hive address and won't last forever.

Some thoughts on VR presenting with the Oculus Quest 2 headset

Comfort

First of all I am not a fan of my kids' headset. I've never felt comfortable with it. I've always struggled wearing glasses inside the helmet so this time I bought daily disposable contacts which definitely helped with comfort. My only problem is they don't replace my varifocals so while I'm wearing the contacts I can barely use my phone or even my desktop computer.

I'll just mention but not go into details: I'm not thrilled that this device is owned and sold by Facebook, and if you've followed my involvement with @jpbliberty you'll know why.

Hands

Having watched the video now I realise that sitting down in a chair with arm rests gave my in VR character a very funny stance. That wasn't such a good idea.

Motion

The reason I was sitting down was to avoid bumping into things in my office. It's not very big but I probably should have stood up to present. The act of swivelling on my chair, however, was very useful because this doesn't make me feel ill. Activating a turn or a movement with the joysticks on the controllers is very touchy for me and not a pleasant experience so I avoided it as much as I could.

Presentation

Once you're on stage and lookin up at the people it really is a good analog to a real presentation. Your slides appear in the air next to you showing the present and next slide and with a clicker to advance. It's magical. You can move this virtual screen around and look around the audience. The audience can wave their hands or emit a stream of emojis above them. Surreal but it does amount to real feedback of a type you just don't get speaking into a Zoom call for example.

Audio quality

I was blown away by the sound quality from this Oculus headset. While using it you hear sounds in an impressive 3D way from little speakers on the sides directly next to your ears. It's not in or over your ears, but playing right into them.

The quality of the microphone and my voice in the recorded livestream is astonishing. Very clean and not much different from the big Yeti microphone I use on my desk from time to time.

Questions from the Audience

This also works surprisingly well and is just an already good experience.

What a wonderful presentation! Especially through cartoons made the whole video more interesting. You have enjoyed a lot of beautiful presentations as well as HiveFest 6.

you need to get a lightning app. Look for Breez and set that up.

Great presentation, claimed the free Sats and it worked :) also tested the two QR codes but somebody claimed them already I guess :) How did you create those QR codes that everyone can claim?

For those QR codes in the presentation I used something called LNUrl. However I used a secondary online wallet from a service called LNPay.co because that way I could be sure that any mistakes by me or problems with LNUrl wouldn't result in me loosing a lot more Sats than I wanted.

As it is, I now have two virtual wallets that I never want to put Sats in again because as far as I know those URLs don't expire :-)

For the other system you used successfully via Hive, that's something I've built myself.

Fantastic presentation, thank you Brian! Really glad to hear you're working on pulling 3Speak and Aureal One under one hood. Looking forward to your updates.

When I was in college, in 2005 my friend and I actually wanted to start a podcast. We talked about it seriously but we were in school, and never did. I have been recording content over the years, but you are right that something was missing. Hive was missing. I am very interested in Podping and doing podcasting here. I think it is really innovative to stream sats from Hive to podcasters, and that I could start podcasting and earn sats for streaming! I need to learn as much as I can about how this works. Great presentation, I am looking at the Slides as well as the https://v4v.app/ website now. When you get the Hive version published pls tag me, I will try this out for sure. Next year I have a whole lot of content to create so its exciting to know my 3speak uploads could also be available as as a podcast! Thanks @brianoflondon !BEER !PIZZA
