Born of Fire Island
Hello Guys!
Did you know that Camiguin Island is one of Mindanao's smallest province? It's known as the "Island of Fire" and is home to seven volcanoes, including Mount Vulcan and Mount Hibok-hibok. Volcanic activity has altered and changed its topography, offering this island paradise a plethora of natural delights.
These restless volcanoes also play a role in shaping and evolving the culture of the province. Camiguin Island has been impacted by the frequent violent rumblings of its volcanoes, which have transformed the way its inhabitants live. Despite its turbulent past, the island retains its allure and intrigue, particularly with attraction sites.
In the third week of October 2018, I travelled to Camiguin island with my family. Starting from Butuan city, we traveled for 4 hours to reach our relative's house, where we will be staying.
They were having a Lanzones festival (langsat) at the time we arrived, so lanzones were free to eat. That was the first time I ate lanzones until I couldn't stand it any more. Camiguin produced the best lanzones in the Philippines. According to the locals I spoke with, the lava that erupted when Mt. Hibok-hibok detonated eventually became fertilizer. I'm not an expert on the subject, therefore I'm not sure how it works.
The next day, we visited many tourist attractions such as Tuasan Falls, Ardent Hot Spring, Sto Nio Cold Spring, White Island, and others. However, because I don't have extra batteries, I wasn't able to photograph some of them.
Tuasan Falls is a 25-meter-high waterfall that cascades down a mountainside with no visible structures in the way. Despite its little height, the water here is powerful, and a quick dip is appealing.
Ardent Hot Spring, which supplies the hot and crystal clear water, is only 10 minutes or 4 kilometers by motorbike from the tourist beaches in Agoho and Yumbing, on the mountainside of the famed Hibok - Hibok Volcano. The water has a temperature of little over 40°C when it emerges from the forest. It's then blended with slightly colder water and poured into four separate pools in a cascade pattern.
Sto Nio Cold Spring is a naturally clean cold spring that comes down from Mt. Mambajao and is filtered by the mountain's layers of minerals.
Finally, Camiguin's most popular tourist attraction.
White Island is a shoe-shaped sandbar in Mambajao's Barangay Yumbing, few minutes from the coast. The shape of the island changes with the direction of the wind. This is a popular swimming and sunbathing location in Camiguin Island. Because the island faces the ocean, the currents are strong, but the other side of the island is shallow and peaceful, making it ideal for children or idle swimmers. The only problem is that there is no shade on the island, so bring sunhats or hire an umbrella from a local. Remember to bring your sunscreen with you.
I always make friends no matter where I go.
Overall, Camiguin is a good place to come if you want to relax and unwind. You will not be disappointed because it will make you ''Cam-iguin'' ( come again). What are you waiting for?
