My Greatest Talent...
I love to write. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always used writing as a means to escape from the mundane. My reality was less than satisfactory, left something more to be desired, and so writing became my outlet. I enjoyed reading and getting immersed in the universe of books, but writing gave me the power to control what happened, and that was something that I sorely lacked in my life: control, and thereby stability.
Of course, perfecting a craft does not happen overnight. I have had many, many years to work on my writing abilities, beginning at the age of 6, where my passion emerged as short stories. One time I had written a script for an episode of Spongebob SquarePants (the one where Mr. Krabs fires him lol). I can still vividly recall creating a story to Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure video game! 😂 I used to write fan fiction for my favourite band, Tokio Hotel, and the Death Note anime! 😳
It became inevitable that my writing would eventually be praised for the treasure that it is. Again, I have worked hard on my craft, have had over 25 years of practice, and I do find a strong sense of pride in my work. In a way, writing has become an extension of my being.
Handwriting I did not begin to practice until I was 10-years-old. I recently had a go at it after a decade hiatus. Some of the letters were difficult to recall, but all in all, not bad! 😀👍 I often wonder, now that they are no longer teaching handwriting in schools, if it will soon become a lost art. I don't want it to be so, and I plan on keeping the tradition alive with my own children. Regardless, our oldest was very happy to see me practice 🙂
Anyway, here is a peek at my process!
I always have a notebook on me 📖 I have had a diary since I was 7, and I can still find notebooks from when I was 19-26.
So the gist of it is, I write out every single post prior to posting. Yes -- every single post. Some of those posts are over 1,000 words; every post gets written out.
It's why I get just a liiittle bit cheezed when a very long post doesn't get any recognition, because not only have I taken the time to handwrite it first, but I then type it out, research, edit, etc.
And absolutely, it is my own choice to put in this extra work, I don't have to do it. But my reality is, I process my thoughts better by making them tangible on paper. I've tried typing them out, but it doesn't produce the same effect; thus, handwritten it is!~
(When your baby gets ahold of your notebook and puts her crayon to work 😅 I've learned to navigate through the stormy seas ⛵)
I know that my talent -- one of my purposes -- is writing. And of course I've tried to write the next great American novel, but to no avail. The idea is not there quite yet, but I know that it will come to me someday; I'm not rushing it. Who knows? Maybe one day in the future you'll be reading my novel from the bestsellers lists! 🤭
