Day 1479: 5 Minute Freewrite: Monday - Prompt: flood

I tried really hard.
Fake imitations of coughs or a sneeze.
Simply taking off my glasses and pretending to have an eyelash or a piece of something, and then wiping off the half baked tear, which mind you was from the eyelash or that random piece of something.

I am sure my nose would be red and my lips curled into the most not-so-charming upside down smile.
Thank god for the face mask that covers this unruly sight.

Time moved ahead and so did the day.
It was just my emotion and my mental state that was stuck right in one place.
Suddenly my boss came on from behind me, startling me, "Is everything alright? You seem a bit down?".
"No ... It's nothing ... I am fine", I replied in a voice that doesn't normally sound like mine.
"I guess it must be that cake I ate at my Cousin's Birthday yesterday... I must be coming down with something. I am sure its not serious... but ...", I continued, looking for excuses to run away from this god awful place.

"Well if you must... we can't have you work when you are not feeling well... I guess that means you are done for the day", his words sounded like rainbows and sparkles in my ears.

I silently drove home trying hard to hold it back.
Peeling off the mask from my face, I smell something beautiful.
A smell of comfort, a smell of love, a smell of warmth ... a smell of mom.

I rush to the kitchen and wrap myself around my mother from behind. Apparently she is unfazed at my randomly emotional and aggressive behavior. She lets me hold on to her until she is done cooking that amazing pot of goodness. She serves it into two bowls and leads me to the sofa.

We eat in silence until my bowl is sparkling clean.
Then she holds my hand and says "Whats the matter baby??? Did something bad happen?"

That's when all the stored water in the dam behind my eyes cracked its way through. It was a massive flood. If anyone could help me recover from the flood's after shock, it was my mother. I must have done something really good in some lifetime to be born to such a wonderful woman.
