The Ship Museum of Aceh Tsunami
(Edited)
I dedicate this post to the victims of the biggest disaster that hit Aceh in 2004. I'm sure you can guess what disaster it was. Yes, the Tsunami that hit Aceh on December 26, 2004. The disaster that occurred seventeen years ago has left a memory that cannot be forgotten. What happened at that time still easily trace.
The enormity of the tsunami waves that hit the northern coast of Banda Aceh in December 2004 still left traces. Not only is it still in memory, the tsunami also left a trail in the form of a museum. A monumental museum that is a warning to anyone against the enormity of the forces of nature.
PLTD (Diesel Power Plant) Floating Monument in Punge Village, Blancut, Banda Aceh. As the name implies, this
is an electric generator ship in Banda Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia. Now, it has become a tourist attraction. The 2,600-ton vessel had been in the sea. The tsunami flung it 2 to 3 kilometres (1.2 to 1.9 mi) inland by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. The ship with a length of 63 meters is capable of generating power of 10.5 megawatts. With an area of 1,900 square meters and a weight of 2,600 tons, no one imagined this ship could move to the center of Banda Aceh City. It was owned by PLN, the local power generating company, and crashed upon two homes when it landed, killing those inside.
Visitors can enter the ship and explore the interior in its entirety. I got there at eight this morning. It was still quiet. Parking attendants are still seen cleaning the area for visitors. After getting permission from the officer at the entrance gate, I started down the stairs specially built by the government. Currently, the area around the PLTD Apung has been purchased by the government to be reorganized into a vehicle for educational tourism.
In the interior of the ship, we can see various information related to the incident. There is a monitor that plays the testimonies of the survivors. There is a monitor that depicts a fictitious animation of how when the Tsunami strikes. There are photos documenting the tragedy on display. Everything is still well maintained.
In the area around the ship, to commemorate the victims who fell as a result of the tsunami, a memorial was built. On the monument, listed the date and time of the incident that also happened to several countries other than Indonesia. Around the monument, a wall was built with reliefs resembling a flood wave.
Alright, all hivers friends, we have arrived at the closing paragraph of my post. Posts that for me personally are distinct impression. I just visited here for the first time. Today I am the first visitor for today. When I finished exploring the interior of the ship, I saw some visitors began to arrive. Honestly, I was carried away by the emotional atmosphere when I was on the ship. The monitor that displayed the image of the catastrophic event made me cry. I say a prayer in memory of the victims.
