Mining Sand: Treasure of My Village

(Edited)

Today I will share a story about a village called Pulo Tanjong, Metareum, Sigli-Aceh. A very unique village because there is a river that separates two in one village. The river flows beautifully with green views of trees on both sides.

I believe that villages should be a reliable force to improve the wheels of the community's economy. This seems to have not been realized by our community here. The young generation likes to migrate and seek fortune outside the village where they come from.

There is nothing wrong with what they do. It's just that the choice to migrate to the city is often done without realizing that the village they live in should be the most comfortable place to work and develop themselves.

While in many other places the land in rural areas has been controlled by city people or capital owners, our village can still rely on its land and water to earn a living for daily needs.

The activity takes place in the river seen in this picture. The activity I mean is the sand mining activity carried out by several friends who have persisted in not leaving the village since they were young. My friend, Hamdani, has been one of the sand miners since he was young to be loaded into incoming cars.

Usually for small-scale construction needs such as residents' houses and shops in the MILA area of Pidie Regency. For each load, the payment received ranges from 50-80 thousand rupiah, depending on the size of the car they have to load.

The sand in this river can be said to be a treasure that will continue to be excavated by the local residents of this village. Every flood that comes, the sand will continue to fill this river. Hamdani and other friends who have the same profession as him can continue to earn a living from each grain.
