By The River

A walk by the river, especially if it happens in the middle of the city, is always special and different. For me it is also quite rare but, because I often associate other activities and obligations with walks, it happens sometimes.

The place where the auto mechanic who takes care of my car works is on a boulevard in Bucharest called Splaiul Unirii. This boulevard has the Dambovita River, which crosses the city, as a traffic divider. Any trip with the car for repairs and overhauls has as a consequence a walk on the river bank.

I can tell these are expensive walks. I always have to pay for the repair but changing the usual place to walk is a bonus.

This ride had two parts, one when I took the car in for repairs and the second part when I went to pick up the car from the repair shop. Two different days, the first dark and ready for rain and the other clear and warm...

The first day

A day already reminiscent of the summer to come as a storm is brewing seemingly out of nowhere. Dark clouds have gathered in a flurry. It's an interesting light and I'm taking advantage of it to take some photos.

There's not much to photograph, apart from the river and a residential complex, called Asmita Gardens.

A few blocks stacked together, they don't seem to be much of a place, but for Bucharest it means something. These are the tallest residential buildings in the city. Bucharest is a city with high seismic risk and because of this, no tall buildings have been built so far...

There are seven blocks in total. The tallest is 25 floors high (almost 100 m high), there is another one with 21 floors and 5 blocks with 17 floors.

The most spectacular part here is the part you can't see. On the right side, following the blocks, is the Vacaresti Delta. A delta has formed on one spot, a large area of land where there was supposed to be a large sports complex, which was never built.

The other day (a few days after the first one)

The day I received two pieces of news, one good, that the car had been repaired and one bad, the amount to pay for the repair, was a very nice, warm and clear day. Extremely pleasant for the ride. After half an hour of a metro ride the short walk, of a quarter of an hour, on the bank of the Dambovita River started.

The good weather has made the birds, waterfowl, and otherwise, much more visible.

Here we can see better the entrance to the Vacaresti Delta. I hope to take a walk there soon.

More than the spectacular buildings are nature and vegetation at their most vivid, now spring. When the grass is the greenest and the flowers the most beautiful!

I find it hard to believe, if you look at these two pictures, that this is a crowded city full of cars.

I am convinced that those who live in these high blocks, those who have windows overlooking the Vacaresti Delta, have a wonderful view in front of their eyes.

I really like the rivers running through the cities. To watch the flowing water and the green of the trees and grass seems to me a great privilege and a great way to relax. That's why I was very surprised to see very few people walking along the path by the river. In fact, I didn't see anyone at all.

I was the only one.

Traveler to the city where I live is what I've been doing for many years, that is, I try to show what is more interesting, more important, and not necessarily what is more beautiful in the city where I live. I don't bypass the ugly places or the sometimes uncivilized behavior that I try to explain through the history of these places but I focus especially on what I think a visitor would like to see when he arrives for the first time in Bucharest. Bucharest, the capital of Romania, a member country of the EU, is located at the crossroads of Central, Eastern, and Southeast Europe. I'm going to use this tag #mycity and then put these places on the Pinmapple map for those who want to discover them more easily!

The weather is changeable nowadays in my city as well. Those dark clouds might form up quickly and bring rain for a short time. Thus, it could interrupt my walking :)

Yes, you're right. The rain came down pretty hard.

I can imagine that area has nice views when the weather's a bit nicer and it just reaches golden hour! The light bouncing from those buildings must have quite a nice warm glow to them.

I think so. I'm thinking of taking a walk in the evening, too, at sunset.

Was it the same weather yesterday in Pakistan too, there were clouds and it was raining here too, now we also went for a walk in a park, there were not so many things to see but there were many trees etc. It was a lot of fun.

Gosh, when I saw the first picture and the Dambovița river I remembered a unique picture from here on the Dambovița bank, a few years ago some gypsies were washing carpets on the sidewalk with water from the river, hehe.
For me it was something I have never seen before especially in such a big city.

That's a nice escape within the city as you can find a river which I would never think really existed within.

What a contrast between the two days, and so cool that the shop you go to for car repairs has such a beautiful spot to walk by

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk, its my pleasure to host it and see all the posts each week from all around the world, including yours, if you have time visit some of the other walks this week there are so many interesting ones
