Epicenter's DIY and Food Court!
For more than 2 years, Epicenter has been closed for renovations. It is the main hub for D.I.Y. supplies for the area. It was supposed to open earlier but then COVID hit and things got postponed even further.
News emerged that they had finally opened up. Rumors were the new Epicenter now had a food court. I anyways had to buy supplies to fix a wall at my place and I love food. Wow. What a coincidence. Off we go, then!
The place has completely been worth the wait. The food court is just as beautiful as it is appetizing. They have incorporated the buffet style of serving. It was made popular by Vilka. Scroll down my blog and you'll find a post I had made about Vilka sometime back.
There is something for everyone from all walks of life. They have vegetarian options as well as non-vegetarian options. A wide range of meat to select from. There are fish cutlets, fried chicken, roasted chicken, fish fry, sausages, grilled corn, fish fillet and so much more.
For a more healthy option, there are fresh vegetable soups and meat soups. Soups are a staple here and Borsch is a must. There also are salads including Caesar's salad, Olivie, Korolivsky salad, and more. They also have fresh fruits if anyone fancies buying one here instead of the supermarket on the lower floor.
There are plenty of desserts and sweets. For beverages, you can opt for any fizzy drink or go with fruit juice. They also have fresh fruit presses, along with hot coffee and tea options.
When you order something, it is weighed and you are handed both your plate and a tissue paper with barcodes on it. After you pass through the serving area, you hand your tissue paper with the barcodes on it to the cashier where you pay.
Since the place has newly opened, chances are you are going to get the more carefully cooked food that was paid close attention to. I think it is the natural order of things. You get the best service when things are new. There is more passion involved.
I went with 200 grams of potato puree, along with buttered corn on the cob. For the protein, I took 2 pieces of roasted chicken thighs. On the second plate, we took white rice with mixed veggies. It came with broccoli, carrots, and peas. And a slice of salmon with sesame seeds.
They didn't have Margarita pizzas so I decided to go with a chicken and mushroom pizza. From ordering to serving, it took about 10 minutes. Talk about fast food, huh.
Honestly, I do not know if I should have gone with it. Any place other than an actual pizzeria has never been short of a disappointment. This pizza felt like a bed of soft dough with a hastily prepared everything else. Why would a chicken and mushroom pizza have large slices of tomato on top? But if you throw out the norms, it was pretty delicious and very cheesy.
It is very safe to say that we spent more than an hour there. The food was too good to eat it quickly and walk out. The atmosphere is bright and vibrant. The open space is what I like. The aesthetics are calm but stylish.
The food isn't overcompensating for anything. It is not perfect, but good enough. The puree isn't chunky or salty. It is balanced. The chicken isn't black on any side and is still juicy. The salmon was perfect, yes. The rice was thorough and not sticky. It is not what you would get in a good restaurant, but it is so much better than any other food court.
All good dinners end with a better dessert. Look at it. So chocolaty and soft, right? Wrong! Looks can be deceiving. I was expecting a soft cake with flowy chocolate on top. Man, wouldn't that be great? The bottom layer was hard and crunchy. By now I was too full to have the entire thing. But wow, Epicenter has really upped its game. Good stuff!
