CROCHET LACE SOCKS

Hello friends! There has been one crochet item I have been avoiding for a long time. It’s not because I don’t like it but because I don’t need it as much. However, I finally figured out a way to make it work for me. Today I bring to you my latest crochet lace socks.

Took me a while to make a sock because the weather doesn’t get extremely cold over here and I may not wear it as much. However, I realized lace socks would work best for me. So I decided to go with the lace socks. This is my first time making socks and I learnt a few things along the way, which I will be sharing as we go on.

I started these socks by making a magic ring and in that magic ring I did 6 single crochet stitches which ended the first round but i didn’t close off the row as I would when working in rounds, I didn’t want this to have a seam line, so I used a stitch marker to indicate the start of a new row. For the next row, I increased the stitches by 6 and did the same pattern of increase by 6 stitches till I got to the 6th row. Then I did regular rows for the next 4 rows which are 7-10.

I started the kact pattern on the 11th row, the pattern consists of shells and chains. I had a total of 6 shells and 6 chains. I started with making 2 double crochets in one stitch, chain 1 and skip 1 stitch then 2 double crochets in the next stitch, chain 4 and skip 3 stitches then started again with another shell which is 2 double crochets in one stitch, chain 1 and skip 1 stitch then 2 double crochets in the next stitch till the end of the row, I did the same on the next row. However, on the 3rd row instead of doing 4 chains, I did 2, single crochet in the middle of chain 4 from the previous 2 rows and another chain 2. Then repeated rows 1 - 3 till I got my desired length.

I was going for knee-length lace socks, however, I had to settle for ankle length because I ran out of yarn. While making the socks I realized for lace socks a lighter yarn with a smaller hook size would be better. I used a 4.5mm hook for this one and worsted weight yarn, it is nice but feels thick. I would prefer a fingering yarn and a 2.5-3mm hook for the next one I will make.

Overall, I am happy with the result. I love how the shell complements the socks and is perfect for what I am looking for. I would like to know your thoughts on the socks.

Smart to go with lace socks since in your environment you may get too hot. These are so pretty! They gracefully adorn your feet.

Nicely done ~
