CROCHET BALACLAVA

Hello fellow needleworkers! Today I'm here to share my most recent crochet project - a balaclava. Well, balaclava has been trending on social media for a while but since it's not my style I have never attempted one. That was until @nonsowrites sent me a picture and asked me to recreate the balaclava.

I decided to honour his request but since it is something I would never wear, I did the most basic one. Well, I would have done something more extra but I intend to unravel after recreating so I can use the yarn for a gown I have in mind.

So for this project I used a black yarn all through and a 5mm hook for the whole project. Making a basic balaclava is pretty straightforward and could take a day to finish depending on your speed. This one took me 3 days though 😂😂 because I only worked on it at night.

I started with making the top part of this balaclava, in the same way, I would have started a bucket hat. I started with a magic ring and 12 double crochet in the first row, then increased with 12 double crochet in every row till I got to the 7th row. I stopped increasing because I already had the size of my head in that row since the increase is based on the size of the head.

After that, I continued doing regular double crochet in every row without any increase or decrease for the next few rows. I didn’t use any particular measurement for this project, I kept wearing it to decide if I have gotten to the place where I will make the eye hole.

So, when I got to that area I skipped enough rows for the eyes and did chains that were equivalent to the rows I had skipped then finished up the row and on the next row, I crocheted over those chains I made from the previous rows. All that was left was to keep doing regular double crochet till I was satisfied with the length.

Here’s the final result, the balaclava is a good fashion item. It’s just not something I would wear but I think it’s okay.

Hi Blezyn, how curious this project is. It is the first time that I see a knitted balaclava and also the first time that I hear that it is a fashionable accessory. I always imagine it as a coat and that's it 😅. Nice idea.

You work at night,😢😢...
I can't miss my sleep, will get sick 😔.

Hope one can breath through the yarn since there is no space for the nose.
This could have made a perfect idea for head cover in the pandemic as well and some extreme cold can make me wear this as I often wanted something to cover my ears from too much north breeze as well.
But I would prefer something colorful sha, not this terrorist black 😂😂😂.

Nice job dear ❤

You work at night

Hahaha, I have to. I go to my day job during the day, I only have the nights to work on my crochet projects.

Hope one can breath through the yarn since there is no space for the nose.

Yeah, It's easy to breath through them, that is why it is advisable to use double crochet since they aren't as tight as single and half double.

I would prefer something colorful sha, not this terrorist black

😂😂 What is terrorist doing here. Black is my favorite color, I don't mind wearing all black

Thanks for stopping by dear
