CHOOSING HAPPINESS
Asking "where do you want to be in 5/10 or more years" is a very popular question. I notice that people hold that question to so much importance.
It's been a way whereby people decide the kind of person they are and what drives them. Are you the kind of person that has a goal or you're just going wherever the wind takes you not having a direction of your own.?
Even when you go for a job interview, you're sometimes asked this question. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? This question has been used to rate so many people's abilities that people now lie about their answers.
They answer based on what they think the interviewer wants to hear, not based on what they feel. I think if we look closely we'll see that not many people give that question genuine attention or much thought.
That question used to mean a lot to me growing up and I would give it much thought and careful planning. However, as I grew older I found that I had just one simple straightforward answer to the question. I don't have to think much to answer it.
Whenever I get asked that question my usual response is "in 5 years I see myself being happy". Now, some people assume it's a cheeky answer or I don't want to be bothered, or simply that I am not happy as I am now.
However, that is what I genuinely want for myself in 5 years and every day of my life. Growing up I had so many laid out plans on how I wanted my life to be but when you grow older you find that life doesn't give a shit about your plans.
Being happy for me entails being surrounded by people who I love and care about, who feel the same way about me. Living my life in the simplest way possible. Choosing happiness doesn't mean I don't have other plans, it just means I'll pick my happiness first.
One thing I want to always be is happy. So it doesn't matter the timeline that is set, my answer is going to be the same. I am happy today and I intend to remain happy regardless of what I decide to do or what I achieve. The goal is to be happy!
