Traveling Through History: The Most Fascinating Buildings I've Seen on My Journey - Sagrada Familia

As a passionate travel lover, I've been living as a digital nomad for the last two years, exploring new countries and immersing myself in different cultures. It's been an incredible journey so far, but I'm not sure how long I can continue this lifestyle. However, one thing that keeps me going is the opportunity to witness the most unique and impressive buildings around the world. And today, I want to share with you some of my favorite architectural wonders that have left me awestruck. There are so many wonderful architectures all around the world but today I’d like to start with Sagrada Familia.

The first country I visited outside of my comfort zone was Spain, and I made this trip alone. In this respect, Spain is very important to me. The Sagrada Familia is one of the most iconic buildings in Spain, designed by the legendary architect, Antoni Gaudi. The building's construction began in 1882 and is still ongoing, making it one of the longest-running construction projects in history. The church's intricate and ornate design features stunning stained-glass windows, towering spires, and sculptures that depict biblical scenes.

The construction of the Sagrada Familia

The construction of the Sagrada Familia building was not finished due to a number of reasons. The main reason was the death of the architect Antoni Gaudi, who spent the last 15 years of his life solely working on the project. He began working on the church in 1883, and it became his life's work until his death in 1926. Gaudi's design was heavily influenced by his Catholic faith and his love of nature, and he incorporated these elements into the intricate and unique design of the church.

The construction of Sagrada Familia has been a long and ongoing process, and it is still not complete. When Gaudi died, only a quarter of the church was finished, and subsequent architects have worked to finish the building according to Gaudi's plans. After Gaudi's death in 1926, the Spanish Civil War broke out, and construction work on the church was halted for several years. Construction on the church was halted during the Spanish Civil War in 1936 and did not resume until 1952. During this time, some of Gaudi's original plans were destroyed, making it difficult for subsequent architects to continue the work as he intended.

In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the church, making it a basilica and a place of worship for Catholics around the world. In recent years, Sagrada Familia has faced controversy over the construction process and the impact it has had on the surrounding neighborhood. Despite these challenges, Sagrada Familia remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in Spain, with millions of visitors each year coming to admire its unique design and learn about its history.

Thank you for taking the time for reading this post. I think I will continue to share my experiences during my trips and interesting pieces of information about the places I visited before. I hope you like it and share your experiences.

I wish you all an excellent day.
