The Town Hall With Splinterlands A Hive Update

avatar

Today I listened in on the Hive town hall which happens at the start of each month that reviews different things happening on the hive blockchain. This month was focused on a application running on hive called Splinterlands which was one of the first if not the first game application to run on hive ever.

If you're interested in the proposal and want to show your support by using the hive you have powered up to vote on it you can do so here: https://peakd.com/me/proposals/315

What Splinterlands Has Brought To Hive

Splinterlands and the team have not only brought the game Splinterlands to hive but also countless new users over the many years. But have have also brought us many other things which I want to highlight here much of if was also spent out of their own money and time which built the hive blockchain into a lot of what we use today.

Hive Engine

Hive engine is one of the biggest projects that was introduced to hive. This was started many years ago when there was the thought of there being SMT (Smart Media Tokens) however the core developers simply wouldn't ever build it. We are now here years later and we still don't have one from the core developers and from what I hear we never will as their goals are simply to provide the tools to allow someone else to build it.

The launch of hive-engine not only allows for the creation of Splinterlands assets which was primarily DEC but it also started to open up Hive to many of the big projects we have today which have push hive FORWARD.

Think of it this way. $LEO token wouldn't exist if it wasn't for hive-engine which also means hive would have never been in defi, had threads (a shorter version of content creation), a more recent release of "shorts" short form video and much more.

We also wouldn't of had tokens like BRO and many other projects that launched on hive and really pulled the communities together.

It also brought us many other applications over the years which people have come to love such as DCrops, Holozing, Terracore, RisingStar, RiseofthePixels, GolemOverlord and MANY others and Many projects which are still just building and getting ready to launch soon.

Early Keychain

It's most likely not known to many but keychain was help started by the creators of Splinterlands as a way to make it easier for people to login to their game. It's now used across MANY applications that run on hive.

Community

Community building also came from all of this as platforms like LeoFinance now InLeo but also Splinterlands has their own which uses the SPT token which allowed people to come together and share updates, battle strats, fan art and so much more with a community of like minded people.

Community building like this is HUGE!

Hive Burns

Yes, applications have to burn hive or at least own resources in order to create new accounts. Over the years Splinterlands has burned a total of 1.6 million hive. While that might not sound like a lot with the crap prices of hive today I think it speaks a lot when you look at the price point of $1+ that those tokens were having to be bought at.

To say that this didn't help support the $3 price range that Hive saw in the last bull run to me would be absurd. Sure it didn't account for it all but it for sure put pressure in the right direction on the tokens price which then brought in headlines and people to hive simply based on that.

This was mainly sparked from $10 spell books being bought in which $3-$9 of that would have been used to buy hive to create the account.

Expanding

Splinterlands also released a bunch of new directions but I agree as many other players agree that they took on too much too fast. It became a bloated platform of a bunch of developers with little to show for it all over those years.

This really happens with any company though. Take a look at X and then needs a drastic shake up to correct itself. Matt becoming CEO again is that shake up that Splinterlands needed and while some might still be salty about it it's actully pushed Splinterlands in the right direction again.

Splinterlands and the people behind it have shaped hive into what we have today. It's given us more users than we would of had otherwise. A higher value in hive price, more use cases, defi and much more.

I really hope they can pull off survival in the end. I like the game and have assets, them succeeding is in my best interest. But they need to be smart with the money from now on.
