Thoughts about the newest Humble Drop: December 2023

Sigh... another Humble Bundle drop getting the better of me and slipping under my radar! At least we aren't into the next January 2024 drop yet! Although, the details are already out... so, I'd better quickly write this so that I can catch up to the start of 2024! And on first inspection, this last drop of 2023 was an okay one for me... the start of 2024 is less good, but only because I already own the headline act for that!

Expeditions: Rome
Midnight Fight Express
Elex 2
Nobody Saves the World
The Gunk
The Pale Beyond
Last Call BBS
From Space

Leading this last bundle of 2023 is the RPG. Expeditions: Rome. I have heard of these Expedition games... and I have been meaning to play them, and I definitely own at least one of them... but CRPGs are quite time consuming to play through... and so, I will have to do some serious catching up on those. Plus, they are really bad for starting and then stopping, as you lose the storyline and all of the little tricks and memories for where things are... and I've got quite a few CRPGs that need a complete restart... sigh, I really need to stick with them until I finish them and NEVER start two of them at the same time. But, in any case, the Expeditions ROME game is a keeper....

On first inspection, Midnight Fight Express seems like it would be a good match for the Steam Deck for the times when I'm travelling and just want a fun little game to pass the time. A top down brawler... and it looks pretty as well. However, the gamer reviews are pretty divided on the game... still, this is what the Humble drops are for... trying out the games that I'm otherwise going to be on the fence for!

The original ELEX is another game that has been sitting in my Steam library... unplayed and unloved. It is one of these open world RPGs, but not in the Bethesda style... but the hardcore German style, made by the makers of Risen. If you haven't played those games... well, they will kick your butt if you aren't careful... no level gating, and some real serious battle timing is required! I had played the Gothic series, and I did find it quite fun... but that was quite a while ago, and I didn't really manage to get into Risen. However, I think I really should step back into this sort of hardcore RPG with ELEX... along with all the other things, so... I will claim it, and hope that some time in the not too distant future, I give it a proper go!

... ummm, Nobody Saves the World... a top down action RPG? Where you are a slug? Sigh... this is weird, but weird enough to hang onto and give it a go... perhaps a good Deck game?

The Gunk is an interesting sort of action-adventure game... it looks really quite pretty and the gamer reviews are pretty decent, so I think that this is going to be one of these really beautiful games that are just a little bit of a slow experience savouring sort of gaming... or perhaps one that will be perfect for the kids?

The Pale Beyond is one of these games that is right up my alley, and it has been on my wishlist for a while as well! A survival resource management game... with lots of text and story! YES YES YES! You are in charge of a stranded expedition... in the vast icy expanse, and the only way is forward into the Pale Beyond! Colour me very very interested!

Last Call BBS... retro retro retro... but as a puzzler. This should evoke some memories of when I was a kid... but I do wonder if it is the sort of thing that will be good nostalgia or if it will be just cringy? Again, overwhelmingly great reviews from gamers... so, I think it will be a game to keep!

From Space... a top down team shooter... it does look pretty quirky , but I'm not a multiplayer sort of person. Skip and straight to the keys store for this one!

Looking good at the Bundle! If you analyze it, I think it's not worth it at all. Rome was free on Epic. Excel II is a very bad game and the others look like phone games with PC adaptations! I wouldn't pay for any hahaha thanks for sharing this valuable information!

I'm not a fan of Epic, and I'm happier getting the game on Steam. You didn't like the look of some of the games down the list? I was quite intrigued... But not one of the best bundles.

Not sure if it's totally worth it since a few were either free or included in other bundles but if you don't have any of these might be a good deal :)

I generally only have monthly drop as I have a really old legacy subscription, so I didn't have most of these... And I don't pick up the free games on Epic.
