Ah, this month's Humble Bundle subscription drop is a reminder on why I just shouldn't buy games directly... even when Steam is having one their many sales! Many of the Humble Bundle drops do feature some pretty awesome games, and unless you are planning on buying AND playing on near the launch date, it is often better to wait for the games to come to you at a discounted package price. And lets be honest, most games bought at launch aren't really played straight away... and if hey are, they displace many other games that join the list of unplayed shame!

So, this month... there are two huge games to headline the package, both of which I had recently bought in the middle of the year Steam sales. Sigh.... oh well, when I list them on the game store, someone will be happy to pick them up for a nice discount!

Wasteland 3 is a modern continuation of that old school isometric CRPG cult classic Wasteland... there was a modern update in the form of Wasteland and then a new version in Wasteland 2, and then we had the 3rd iteration. Back in the day, you were either a Fallout or a Wasteland person... or both... both were great CRPG masterworks set in a post-apocalyptic world. One of the old fashioned ones, not the candy-cane theme-parks that now pass for the end of humanity for modern gamers! Wasteland 3 is awesome, but I already have it...

.. and speaking of games that I already bought earlier (and shamefully, installed but haven't played yet...), is Greedfall. Another RPG, but this time in butt-view... aka, 3rd person perspective. I had heard good things about this RPG when it had launched in 2019, but had held off buying it due to the long list of unplayed games that I had. But when it popped up on a large Steam sale, I couldn't resist and picked it up. Sadly, I hadn't played it yet.. and then I saw that it was helping headline this month's Humble Bundle. CRAP!... ah well, to the game store it goes!

First Class Trouble is an interesting versus party game, where one set of players are trying to shut down a malevolent AI, whilst the other group of players are androids out to stop them. The setting on a train looks pretty damn... but I don't have a group of online friends to play with these days and I don't fancy playing with randoms... so, I'm afraid that this might end up going to the sale store. Pity, if only I was about two decades younger.

Backbone is an interesting retro-styled narrative game where you play as a raccoon detective in a soviet-style, noir setting. It is more of story type game, and as such... is right up my alley! I'm pretty keen to try this out, and the low-res graphics might mean that it is a perfect fit for the Steam Deck as a travelling game. Claiming and keeping this one!

No idea how to describe TOEM... a black and white discovery game, where you have a photographic eye that helps you discover objects and advance the story. I see that it has a number of BAFTA and indie awards, and the Steam reviews are "overwhelmingly positive". So, I'm definitely keeping his one as well... probably not to everyone's taste, but it is likely going to be appealing to this old gamer's heart, or to my kids. Another Deck game by the looks of it!

Oh man, Where the Water Tastes like Wine is another game that seems heavily story driven... and set in the Depression era, which is an unusual game setting! But is a weird folklore styled Depression era... travelling and talking to unravel the story world. Again, it appears to be another indie hit, and yet another reason for the Humble Bundle subscription that I keep hold of for so many years. Lots of these games would just never cross my radar!

Blade Assault is a 2D rogue-platformer.. with neon-retro graphics. I have quite a lot of rogue-likes in my collection that I've not fully explored, and I'm not quite so keen to add another one to the list. So, i'm afraid that this will go straight to the game store.

Super Magbot... another 2D platformer with a twist... where you CAN'T JUMP! LOL, but I'm not sure that this is enough to hook me in. I'm not a great fan of platformers anyway, so I'm afraid that this gimmick will just have to appeal to someone else.
